What are chances for decent resort skiing Saturday and Sunday. Trying to make the call for my nephew to fly up from LA for a quick ski weekend. Forecast for Saturday is looking coldish with rain in the afternoon and very little sun. Sunday is looking better with hopefully and overnight freeze and sunshine on Sunday. I'm thinking mid morning groomers should be decent both days?

It’ll be slushy and grabby by lunchtime, but I’ve been at Squaw last three days and there is tons of snow at High Camp/Siberia/Headwall/KT-22 and Shirley/Granite Chief. Silverado is closed but other than that, it’s amazing. I’ve spent like $80 on sunscreen tho...

so when i think of wet slides i think of slow hissing creepers. today we set off one on se aspect on ralston about 10 am that got supercharged and blasted down the steep rolls until it exploded into the trees and cliffs below. the top 6' of the entire slope entrained as we cut out to a safer route down and would have probably been fatal to anyone caught in the impact explosion or down in the line of fire. earlier there was a solo snowboarder that was a little bit behind us that veered off our uptrack to go straight up the path. i later found out after we had left that he had started to try to boot up the top of the path and sunk deep and was starting releases just from booting and had turned around. i breathed a big sigh of relief when his truck was gone from the lot on our return. marginal freeze, inversion, and blazing april sun this am all contributed. the skiiing on the exposed ridge above was great but as soon as we dipped east it got fukd. i think lots of the new snow blew off the ridge and deposited in the se facing lee and didnt freeze at all last night. the other aspects had a similar to yesterday 5-6" freeze layer. its supposed to get considerably warmer the next couple nights and days sooooooo........ the resort is skiing great. careful out there++++

Glad no one got hurt Toby, having taken a ride of around 1000 feet of vert in a matter of seconds in a spring avalanche even after a good freeze and skiing perfect corn I have a whole new respect for spring touring. I’m lucky to be alive, never let your guard down.
Thanks for sharing

For the second night in a row, the low air temperature on the south shore around 8,500ft was 36 with most of the nights spent near 40. Highs nearing 60 at that elevation. Despite clear skies and radiational cooling, I wouldn't call it a good refreeze. Careful out there, folks!

Squaw was phenomenal yesterday.
Great corn all day, no groomers needed.

Alpine was money today. I love winter but damn do I love some spring turns.
Did a quick probe in my yard earlier, 218 cm average on the sunny, non wind loaded side of my house. Can’t even imagine what I would get on the other side. It’s gonna be a great spring.

minimal freeze but way better then expected up high on the pass. our tracks were already recycled on drive home 4 hrs later. until we get a solid freeze, getting back to rig by 9:30 is best if skiing anything solar. i think westish facing is the most consolidated right now and best bet if out after 10. kirkwood skied well today and while the thimble hike is posted closed, the backside is looking tight. skinning from bottom to ski thimble by 8:30 before lifts pop would be great i bet. 2 is closed but vista is well worth the skin up for an afternoon slack lap. 10 was closed by 1:30 when we left. not sure if early close or mechanical

With my kid on spring break today we decided to take advantage of the warm weather and spent the day up at Rose.
Beautiful day.
Didn't freeze Thursday night so the groomers were fun first thing in the morning.
Place was empty as seen by how few cars were in the Slide lot.
Did a few laps in Manzanita bowl early, which were fun. On the traverse back in it sure looked tempting to ski another 1000 ft down as the corn snow looked prime. Someone had set a skin track from the bottom back up to the resort already.
Slightly off thread, I was out in Elko yesterday and the Ruby's are holding a ton of snow still if anyone is looking for some spring hiking outside the Tahoe area. Heading down to Mammoth for the weekend and hoping to find slightly cooler temps.

looks like a moderate freeze sat and sunday nights and if nothing else getting the inversion out a little bit.
