I could be wrong in what it's named, but we were skiing between Scott Chute and Promised Land (if you are going by the trail map names)

Sounds like you were skiing promised land. That name covers a lot of area, not just the line on the map

Thanks to the two dudes who pointed us over there from the bottom.
Great skiing with you! Mashed Potatoes rips.

    https://www.sierrasun.com/news/local...t-its-resorts/

"At Squaw Valley Alpine Meadows, work will replace the Hot Wheels lift at Alpine Meadows with a new high-speed quad with an extended second leg to the ridge, granting skiers and riders quicker access to the Alpine and Sherwood areas, Alterra announced. New surface lifts at High Camp at Squaw Valley will be geared to improve connectivity with High Camp facilities and enhance the beginner experience."

Finally after years of rumors. Should be a huge improvement at Alpine in general, but especially on storm days when Summit can't open. Mid station should be convenient as well for Art's laps, etc. even though a lot of us will lose one of our current stashes.

Yeah... good and bad news. When Scott line is blown out past the Chalet on weekends it's nice to take Hot Wheels and then scoot to the Sherwood cat track...

But on pow days when Summit is getting backed up before opening it would be a nice option instead of Roundhouse which is usually empty when they are trying to open Summit at 9.

New lifts are fun regardless IMO. Gotta remember mid-week pow days are where it's at, and this will make power lapping 9-noon a different experience.

Hard pass on hot wheels extension. Arts and expert will no longer be a nice stash as will plenty of others. It will also screw hotwheels as a nice long lap for beginners/low intermediates

Some more info from the article:

"A new high-speed detachable quad chairlift will replace the existing Hot Wheels triple chair, adding a mid-station at the current terminus and a 1,300-foot extension up to the east ridge of Ward Peak, landing between Art's Knob and the top terminal of Sherwood Express.

A total ride time of about five minutes will give skiers and riders direct access from the base area to both the Alpine and Sherwood sides of the ski area. The new express chairlift will be a four-minute ride from the Alpine Meadows base area to the mid-station, providing convenient access to some of the area's best low-intermediate terrain."

I def agree that some of the stashes will get hit, but I still think it will be an overall nice improvement. I know not everyone has the luxury of skiing week days (myself included) but I feel like this would definitley be great for mid-week days. I've given up on weekends.

I think it will really help ease the line-up on Summit on pow days. Taking Hot Wheels becomes a real viable option and it should help spread everyone out quickly. Knowing you can go up to Art's and have a fun lap down to Scott (or Lakeview or Sherwood) doesn't make Summit such a no brainer anymore, and same deal for RoundHouse on windy days - you still have two pretty good options instead of a line at Roundhouse going back three towers.

There's still going to be plenty of stashes around that mountain since a lot of people refuse to hike even a little.

I took a couple of days off to give my knee a break, and should have continued that program today. I had a feeling that even slightly sunny aspects would bad, so i went to PH after initially considering RLP.

Every aspect I could find was either dust over partially frozen mank/breakable crust or wet slide debris. I made it down without hurting myself and called it a day after 1 lap (my usual PH minimum is 3).

I'm going mountain biking now bc the trails behind my house are perfect. If you didn't ski today, I'd say ROMO is the right attitude

Clear Creek has a tiny patch of snow before the rock, but I didn't go past that. You'd prob find more snow shortly thereafter. The fun stuff across the road is totally clear. I got in 12 mi door-to-door and only hit 2 puddles and a 100' of snow.

Skied West and East side of relay peak today, fantastic powder. Finally skied a short couloir that i was eyeing for over a year. Before today it was really narrow at the bottom, with a90 degree turn, blind from above.
There was finally enough snow to try it. A few good turns, but really not worth it.

Here is a picture across the valley. Going back to spend a whole day here, soon.

Adrenaline firing at the pass today. Backed off a line but dragon lurked under plan b as well. 3rd turn jigsawed but fortunately was initiating a turn at high speed when I became aware so was able to point it out. Friend in a couloir next door had it rip wall to wall on him as well today. Good reminder day that moderate is not a full green light++++

I've never heard anything referred to as Scott Face. I don't think that's ever been in the nomenclature as far as I know

Glad you and your friend are OK -> we need your stoke! Those debris fields look massive.

That pic above looks like slides rimmed most of the bowl. Mix of natural and skier/boarder triggered?

Where was this, and what aspect?

On relay peak, it was really stable, even though breaking trail around 10,000 ft, east aspect, i was really worried about the wind slabs. Nothing moved, but i felt really stupid, and I'm convinced i lucked out.

    Which is not a strategy.

Same, thatís why I was asking. But thereís all kinds of patrol shack names around Alpine so thatís why I wasnít sure.

From lookers perspective, left to right: Promised Land - Crag Chute - Juniper Face - Scott Chute - Murphy's Mistake - Chute That Seldom Slides - CTSS Trees

I suppose if you wanted to go even farther left: Lower 40 - Gentian Gully - Butcher Block Rock - Subway Cliffs then Promised Land.
