OFFICIAL TAHOE 18/19 STOKE, CONDITIONS, WEATHER THREAD

We went to ski with some friends at Alpine today, guess none of us got the memo that Alpine was closed today including the squaw patroller we met to ski there. You think at least they would put some signs up before you got all the way up there to the lot, lots of others turning around also. Had a fun day at Squaw though.

Here’s a view of Alpine today, should be sweet on Friday when they reopen with a solar reset

Did a dawn patrol with the fat bike on red lake peak before driving up north today photo part way up when the sun popped

How did the lower part of Thunder Bowl look. V Tree looks decent from your pic, but the bottom is out of view.

Who is skiing Squaw next Sunday? Looks likely I'll be there solo cruising around for the day.
if i'm not working i could maybe be convinced. bumps aren't really my thing right now though.

^^^ I hear ya. I should be putting on skins, but don’t think I can get to a TH much before 8am on Sunday and with a low of 36 Saturday night, that seems too late.

Thunder Bowl looks so fucking stacked. Holy shit. Makes me wish Saturday was sunny. V Tree or from the top. Even the pinner Chute you can’t quite see into in your pick looks fat.

Skied Pyramid Peak on Sunday. Everything was total mush on saturday despite a howling front coming through so expectations were very low. Unexpected clearing on saturday night gave us a pretty hard freeze, so ski crampons to just below the summit were in order. Booted the rest of the way up just as the east wind blew in all the clouds. Total whiteout. DAMN. Hung out on the summit for an hour waiting for a miracle. Around 10am the clouds just friggin disappeared, the sun came out strong and left us with the most glorious insta-corn down the SE face and the wrap around east facing descent to Lake Aloha. More fun on the exit down to Tamarack Lake and then the long slog across the lakes back to the sno-park (which always sucks, and this day was no different). Killer day out there. I love it when low expectations turn into some of the greatest days ever.

Halls area skied great yesterday at 1:15, today we went back and topped out on Mini and start skiing at 12:15. Much punchier snow on the up track, guess yesterday benefited from a couple days of ok freezes. Tougher turning snow than yesterdays easy butter but nothing slid and was still real fun, I would not have wanted to drop any later. About 10 minutes from topping out there was some rock and ice fall that hit right in our boot pack from a few minutes prior.

easy or hard? i've spent the last two days touring up homewood and skiing the n facing groomers and they've been awesome plus lake views the whole time.
absolutely zero gnar but with it not freezing at the lake and inversions keeping it even warmer up high, the firm groomers (even at 4 pm) have been great. plus dog friendly easy skin up.

Powdork, which Homewood base do you recommend skinning from? Mellow groomers sound good for some afternoon exercise

Two different experiences but probably best from the main lodge for variety of options and maximum return in uphill efforts. Cat track lookers left of madden

main lodge. i took 'ore car' which is the cat track that goes lookers right of the bottom face. the other goes too and might be better (there was a quickly burning out section on the lower se facing part of the road). all the north facing runs were excellent but 'miner's delight' is the longest of the bunch. glory hole which wasn't groomed was sticky and soft but could get good again with a freeze.
