A member of the Kirkwood Mountain Resort ski patrol hasn’t been seen since Aug. 3 and his family is hoping the community can help locate him.
John Greever, 38, left his home near Georgetown School on foot at about 11:30 a.m. Saturday without his cell phone, GPS watch, vehicle or beloved dog, according to Greever’s younger sister Robin Waskowiak.
Greever, who grew up in Georgetown and is on the Kirkwood ski patrol, was wearing a gray T-shirt, black shorts and a blue baseball cap. He is described as 5-feet, 7-inches tall and weighing 135 pounds with brown hair and brown eyes.
Search and Rescue teams have searched the Georgetown area, finding scent trails in the Georgetown Nature Area and along Wentworth Springs Road, Waskowiak said.
Anyone with information that could help find Greever is asked to contact the El Dorado County Sheriff’s Office at 530-626-4911.

John’s body has been found. Horrible news.
Thanks to all who helped in the search and helped spread the word. He was a friend and coworker. Super smart and funny. Rippin’ tele skier. He will definitely be missed. RIP Greeve from the Heave.

Ah bummer about John. Crossed paths with him a number of years ago in Big Sky. Great guy.

Might have us a late summer corn harvest at the end of the week...
Forecasted temps (at least in the Truckee area) are projected to be hovering in the mid/high 20s-to-low 30s at night with 66+ degrees in the daytime over the next several days...

Well it dusted up on Mt Rose Hwy yesterday and some forecasts are hinting at another dusting at higher elevations over the weekend.
Have not skied any Tahoe area patches in awhile, but Dunderberg was solid over Labor Day.
Prolly gonna hit something "local" (Lola or Castle or Carson) on Friday...

Talking to Mrs L2S about a month either at Mammoth (April 2020) or Tahoe (March 2020). Longer drive to Tahoe for sure. Is AM/Squaw just to much of a shit show now because of the Ikon hoards? She likes Tahoe more than Mammoth, but I think skiing at Mammoth (weekdays) may be less crowded. What do you guys think? And thanks.

My experience last year was that Squalpine is busier than Mammoth, particularly so midweek on a powder day because there’s a significantly larger population of strong local skiers in Tahoe. That said, Alpine takes a long time to track out with all the sidestepping involved, longer than Mammoth.
An extra 3 hours of driving each way to Tahoe seems inconsequential if you’re going for a month.

midweek tahoe shouldn't be too bad, except maybe on a storm day with only lower mountain open. Tahoe powder gets cooked pretty quickly when the sun comes out in March. March at Mammoth not an option?

Liv2ski, you normally ski Mammoth, no? Tahoe in March is awesome. Give it a shot. There are more locals midweek than Mammoth but it's not bad after March 1!
For the rest of y'all -- is Boreal the only option for night skiing? Thinking about doing some midweek night skiing next year with the kids. And I think Squaw isn't doing it anymore.sproing!

Yes on Boreal.
The nights only pass was always a good deal in the past, but it seems
to have gone up a bit (used to be $125 for adults, but now appears to be the same price for everybody regardless of age)

No on Squaw

This is pretty cool. Tahoe200.
Bunch of kooks running the whole way around the Lake Tahoe Rim Trail.
Not stopping for night. Started today, finish Sunday.
You can see where they are here, each of them has a SPOT.

We've been futzing around on the TRT last few days. Lovely right now.
