OFFICIAL TAHOE 18/19 STOKE, CONDITIONS, WEATHER THREAD

Since parking and the bus situation are such a cluster now. Heavenly might as well be closed for me once they go to Gondi access only now. The only reason I might re-up my pass next year is the great side county access but seriously considering skipping next year.

Got a 7am report from a friend driving over Luther, report is snowing heavily and the roads a mess.

I think solar aspects that did not get much snow out of the last system were the right call yesterday for consistent good turns. If it were not for my knee popping on me while clicking into my binding at my high point yesterday I’d consider it a great day skiing as it looks like now I’ll probably be on the sidelines the next few days, boooo.

Some very tentative and painful turns off the top yesterday but close to perfect with the wind and clouds keeping the window open for a long time. Got everything from sprinkles, snow, wind, sun and clouds.

choosing where and when to go shred is the crux of skiing in the bc. be ready to embrace the solar when the north gets cooked........like yesterday. and maybe avoid places like roundtop when theres nuking wind and shitty viz. i havnt had a single shitty snow day all year. i have yet to get back to the car this year and say "well at least it was a nice hike." winter 2019 might just be my favorite season in my 20 years here

personally, i love when heave goes to limited ops. my neighborhood gets quiet and we have our own private skinning resort with an added bonus of an easy skin to some lift access and then get to ski home on pristine groomers doing their "groomer corn" thing when theres no other traffic. i hate the gondola and refuse to ever use it to access the mountain and downloading just plain sux. i do agree that the terrain they will have open is meh and if i had to access from the gondi id b over it too

This seems to be consensus among an ever-growing group of 20+ year folks, myself included. A special year indeed.

Yeah from playing around with the NOAA spot forecast tool, looks like the snow line will be somewhere between 6.5k->7k today.

Mos def. I think 2011 will jump way up in the snow course rankings with the April 1 survey as that March was incredibly snowy.

Maybe Iíll just park at your house and skin up. That actually sounds so much better than the gondola. And I love me some untracked groomer corn.

If VR would allow us KWOnly to use our pass there once they closed us down, Iíd likely head out for a spin and maybe even buy a $17 burger one day.

My sone wants to keep skiing this spring. He says he wants another year or two before I require him to climb for turns. Weighing the options. Buy day tickets off CL, or lay down the money for ikon. Problem with the 2nd option is I might be tempted to ski lifts instead of tour on the few days Iím solo. I very much miss the BC, but it is hard to get back on that horse, especially if I need to get in the car at 3 to be at the TH by 7. Ah, spring.

Heavy rain has arrived at the coast.

Good luck finding parking at Stagecoach.
The coupla times we've skied HV this season, we had to park at Cali Lodge. Which also fills up on big days.
(The bay-area Ski Bus did have some advantages, it turns out).

woke up to rain at my casa this morn (approx 6500) and had rain on/off on my drive down to Reno to catch a coupla movies. When in Reno (approx 11:05 am) you couldn't see Mt. Rose for all the fog.

drive back to Truckee apres 2 films (approx 4 pm) was non-stop rain from Reno to about Floriston, then it turned to sticky slop. It was thick and wet at Savemart over by Mickey D's and it was the same up Northwoods Blvd. My driveway had about 2+ inches of thick, gloppy on it when I finally got home around 5:30.

Currently snowing at the crib, but it's in-between sleet and snow at the moment. Coming down fast and steady, though.

And they had chain control on 80 headed West out of Truckee.

I ain't no weather guru, but I'mma say this storm is definitey gonna be delivering different types of snow at different elevations and aspects (to wit, higher elevations are gonna score, lower ones are gonna snore).

Great sleeper POW day with no crowds whatsoever.
Tomorrow is expected to be even better.
    Protests are going out tomorrow.

    Really confused.
If today was great and tomorrow is going to be better, then what the fuck are you protesting?
And more importantly, where will you be protesting? That way I can avoid the drama and actually get some skiing in...

Protests at the Wood. I started with 4FRNT Ravens today, and they did well to begin. But by the end of the day, it was apparent that Protests will make an appearance tomorrow for the opening of backside (winds expected to come down tomorrow).

Guessing he might have been nudged off the road based on the article linked above ďCHP went into a pursuit with the Durango as it failed to yield to themĒ but who knows, he certainly looked like a pillar of society

My son was born early May of 11. I thought it was a killer season, and I had gotten the best of it. Then it kept snowing into June. Skied lift served at KW on the 2nd of July. Cornells still went. The traverse back to the front was mixed conditions.
