Wind jacked off Becker today and cold. Echo Lake is only half iced.
Where is the powder hiding?

For those that don't know someone just posted it on FB so no sense in keeping it a secret anymore.
weather.kirkwood.com
Interestingly the night before last the top of 6 had sustained winds out of the NE at close to 130 mph with gusts to 170 mph. So looking at a map it would seem all the powder has moved to Iron Mountainpowdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.

OFFICIAL TAHOE 18/19 STOKE, CONDITIONS, WEATHER THREAD
We returned to back-of-Castle (north side) today, three days after we found primo conditions there. Now: still kind of nice, but noticeably heavier. We found some sort of fun chalk snow here and there in more exposed areas higher up in various places, east and west aspects. Also more nasty crust in more places than mid-week. Still, a good day today. Oh, and the Castle SnoPark was a total cluster when we headed out around 1; getting there to start our tour before 9 was a good plan.

Need to get in better shape so did the 6 mile slog out to Silver Peak from 89 this morning. Nice sugary snow on north and west aspects. On my return to the car discovered at higher elevations the east facing stuff was good too, which if I had realized earlier I would have dropped into the Eastern Bowl off Silver I’ve always wanted to ski. Oh well, it’s still there for the taking without a single track if anyone is so inclined.
I ski 135 degree chutes switch to the road.

Don’t expect much. Winds are out of control at Alpine right now. Ward peak weather station has gusts of 120+

Skied Kirkwood for the first time in at least 5 years on Saturday and it was great! Completely forgot how awesome that place is! Anyway, wind hammered anything remotely not sheltered. Wall (love that they still post the skull and crossbones sign at the bottom of the chair and at the top) and below thunder saddle skied the best as did most north facing aspects. Backside was a wind hammered mess but the groomers were very fun. If I was a better skier, I'm sure I would have found better snow in the nooks and crannies but since I mostly suck, I stuck to the obvious places.
By the way, it was not crowded at all. Rolled in at 9:30ish am, parking was not an issue, and I don't think we waited in a lift line more than a couple of chairs. The K-12 dude. You make a gnarly run like that and girls will get sterile just looking at you - Charles De Mar

found the pow on Saturday on Maggie's. can skin from the road but super thin 3/4 of the way up to granite lake. We hiked down the lower portion of the trail. still thin in the bowl too but found protected powder on NW and E aspects.
meter-man - I hate it when I can't figure out a picture's location.

Mt.Rose has cancelled tonights NYE fireworks, etc. Due to high winds in forecast.
A shame. Was kinda cool last year.
Pretty frigging cold overnight anyway. Hunker down!
