Squaw was pretty meh first thing yesterday. With warm temps and the upper mountain socked in, my son and I just lapped Saddle to Mountain Run for some smooth slush groomers. Ended up staying on KT all day and only the steepest, most skied runs like West Face and Chute 75 skied well. The snow that fell the day prior with minimal tracks skied like glue and was HORRENDOUS. A bit sad KT is now closed but I guess Summer is coming?

Happy Bday to all!
Did not get a Vail pass this year but skied Heavenly a few times. The skiing on those days was fantastic (thanks Ullr) but the drop in operational quality was shockingly apparent. Long lines for tickets, shuttles were a joke where walking was a better option, lifts broke and the mountain opened slower than before. Vail used to try with Heavenly (timely openings, prompt comfortable shuttles, free cookies, plenty of staff) but now it is run like a lower tier Vail resort (Kirkwood, cough, cough).
Next season will be interesting especially with the ICON pass competing for their season pass holders for a second year in a row.

Did an evening quick bang on "Sunrise Bowl" in my hood today (Tahoe/Donner).
Hit one of the many melted-out skin tracks at 6:15, was at the top by 6:35, then hung out drinking beer ("Juice Nukem" IPA from Moonraker Brewing) til 7:30 to let the sun dip behind Castle Peak and give the snow a chance to set-up.
Banged out a single run on some smooth, speedy-and-slick soft-serve.
Methinks this is the call for now since we're not really gonna get a serious freeze/thaw corn cycle anytime soon: either hit stuff hella early in the AM (like 5 or 6) or hella late in the evening (7:30ish).
But what do I know?

snow was surprisingly still consolidated around 3:00 today at carson pass. steeper n facing had boot top penetration but lower angle was pretty decent although the t-storms got me out of there quick.

Really fascinating CHP vid on the December Tallac incident where John Morrison was injured on the front chutes.

Anyone want a single 2 pc adjustable BD pole, free, before I throw it out? Aluminum upper, carbon lower. Carbon doesn't work well for self arrest which is why there's only one. The last time I broke one I found a taker for the other one in the Funi on my way down the mountain.

anyone know what the Jakes snow line is? Can you skin from the usual parking area near the Bliss HQ and how is the low stuff near there?

I took OG's pole. It was glorious!
Thanks for the pole, enjoy the beer, and here's some stoke from December.

^^in general the further west you go the lower the snow line.
skied monitor today from the car. snow was nice and smooth and held up even til 2ish. got chased out after 2 laps by thunderstorms that dissipated.powdork.com - new and improved, with 20% more dork.

Rallied for a dusk patrol up Sunrise Bowl this evening.
Snow is still to the road (Ski Slope and Glacier Way, depending on your start/exit points).
Skinned up around 7:10 and was back at the truck by 7:53.
Top half is dimpled, but smooth.
Bottom half is sun-cupped and runnelled to hell, but the snow is holding up.
