I am confused by mtgirl's comments as I read CaG's comments exactly how he intended them: big bike is more stabler (but less playful) than smaller bike...not sure why you're reading it differently.

Anything 27.5 specific? Not interested in a 29er for NE tech. Like to hit DH a few times a year too.

Get the 153 27.5 or the Patrol.

Commencal Meta or Bronson, etc. will work too

Which Pivot are you looking at?

Bike magazine is slobbering all over the Patrol like an intoxicated prom date:

Tested a K-ton....that qualifies as NE tech, no?

Take a look at a RM Slayer. It's not good for rolling terrain, but if your trails are climb to the top and ride down then it's a tough bike to beat. Very, very fun on flowy mellow trails, and a DH bike on DH trails. It also climbs super super well. Check PB for some killer deals right now.

Mach 6 AL build. Really wanted to keep the budget to $3,500 though. I got into this sport thinking it was a cheap way to stay in decent shape for skiing. Boy was I off base there.

I spend twice as much on biking as I do skiing. Sucks, but worth it. You gotta pay to play

Intense may be worth a look. New pricing has them starting at sub $3K. Tracer, Carbine, Recluse?

Patrol and Mach 6s for you; way under budget, all sizes.

Worth noting: there are weight limits on the Intense bikes; Tracer is 250#. Maybe it was always there, but I never noticed it before. I don't weight that much (225 w/ gear), but if I'm gonna be enduroing a bike, that doesn't comfort me.

Way above budget, but it's cool-looking and new DW suspension:

I rode one of these at Outerbike in Crested Butte, it was probably the bike that surprised me the most. It pedaled really well, and was really fun descending - playful, poppy, capable. The demo bike I rode had a 150mm Fox 34 and if I were buying it I'd definitely upgrade to a 160mm 36, but otherwise yeah, great bike. I thought it was better in every way than a couple big name DW-link bikes (Ibis, Pivot).

That said, I won't be buying one, not about to be a test mule for a first production run from a new company.

Finally...an actual real ride report. Glad to hear it's nice. I'd be on board, but waiting to see what they throw out for a 29'. I'd definitely pay the upgrade to a 36...whether 150 or 160. And, by the time it's released, any issues will have raised their head (hopefully).

Recently demoed the Bronson and Nomad. Bronson seemed well rounded but not really the climber I'm looking for.

My large 2918 Slayer is going to go up for sale soon. I love it but there is something about the short offset long travel 29ers that, at least at my size, are just more fun.

Having demo'd a Sentinel and owning a FB29, I can confidently say that the FB is a far better climber than the Sentinel. Especially on super steep stuff. I understand what the BIKE guys were saying re: sluggish feeling on super steep climbs, but I also think they blew it way out of proportion.

I have talked to two people lately who said the opposite, Sentinel climbed better, and was more of the “all around” bike.

I have heard some people saying the FB29 climbs better than “their last trail bike”. I have seen this kind of hype before..

How does the FB 29 ski bumps?

    Fact!!!

Can’t wait to try new Yeti for comparisons sake...But I’d really like to try out that Mondraker...if I’m spending the kids college fund and a 401k, I might as well get something interesting.

Can someone explain which genre of bike most people are riding on trails, etc. in the Colorado mountains? As in, if you lived in Crested Butte or near Aspen, would you primarily ride enduro?

    Thanks

Or the Altitude, which is an amazing all-rounder.
