All that said, the Seattle ATC facilities did a great job dealing with this, the TRACON in particular.

My nephew’s summer job was the same job as Rich’s and he worked alongside him about 2 days/week.
He said he was maybe a little quiet, but completely normal. Eye opener for him about mental illness.

Apparently, the F15s that scrambled out of PDX got to the Seattle area in less than 6 minutes

PDX to SEA is almost exactly 100 Nautical Miles.
If my calcs are correct, for a 6 minute flight from PDX to SEA the jets would have to travel at Mach 1.5. (1147mph).

Is it me or do the Dash's, ATR's, etc. look like the wings are just too skinny to fly?

Interesting listening to the tapes of this guy with the tower and sitting pilots. My guess is that he just discovered acid and realized his life was a joke. Fortunately, he wasn't homicidal.

Yeah, it's the classic neighbors said "quiet, polite, seemed ok, kept his yard neat" ..."we were all really surprised that he had human heads in his freezer" situation.

So I've heard that we was on the towing crew. Is that what your nephew was doing?

I'm in the camp that Rich was just a fucking asshole who planned and stole a $30 million plane to go for a joyride as evidenced by his cocky attitude with ATC. The vast majority of people with mental issues don't decide to do this, so trying to turn this into a mental health issue is like looking for the boogeyman.

Perhaps planes should have keys like my Toyota?

This is what I was thinking yesterday. I was listening to a golf buddy, yudge tRump fan, going on on how awesome sky king dude was, on how impressive of a way he went out...it was like he looked up to him. I mentioned how this will impact safety issues from now on, increased costs for the airlines, passed down to fliers. He was quick to dismiss my thoughts.
