^^^ theft
It was a Horizon Air Dash 8 - 400 turboprop (seats about 75 passengers although none were on board), and was supposedly stolen by a mechanic who worked at Seatac. Apparently, the motive was suicide.Last edited by pisteoff; 08-11-2018 at 02:24 AM.

According to Seattle Center that is correct
142d Fighter Wing Air National Guard.
And yes it is.
It's only about 120 NM. Even in a civilian passenger jet it would only take about 20 mins including take-off and climb.
It's safe to say that an F-15 could do it in 10.

Now i'm hearing the guy isn't a mechanic. CNN is the source so it should be considered true until it's verified.

Man, a Dash 8 is a pretty big ass plane to steal and figure out how to start up and take off in.

Guy I worked with in AK got drunk and stole a plane, having never flown one before. His crash landing earned him three years as a guest of the State of AK. He said getting the plane up in the air wasn’t too hard, it was the getting it back on the ground in one piece part that was difficult.

second that, private pilot myself. taking off and turning are easy; landing is the big deal.
that guy must have had training before to get it out of the gate and up before he was stopped considering it was a commercial plane and doing a loop.
he sure screwed every airline and passenger as the faa will now have to go thru and likely add additional security and time to prevent this.TGR forums cannot handle SkiCougar !

Still, being able to know how to read a checklist and get flap angles correct, proper mixture settings, yaw dampener etc aint no joke. Taking off (albeit not in something like a C172) is still pretty complex. Most of my flying has been in PC-12s and the Run-Up and Take off Checklist is no joke

The atc audio was already on the internet last night. It was suicide.
If there's any truth to the rumor that he was a mechanic, starting and taxiing the airplane would have been part of his job. If not, there's always youtube and flight sim video games.
Not to get too pedantic, but that was technically a roll.
He sure did.Last edited by pisteoff; 08-11-2018 at 12:36 PM.

Planes at SeaTac were on ground hold while this was happening. Then, afterwards everything was backed up including available tug drivers to push the planes back from the gate. My 11:30PM SLC arrival arrived at almost 2:00AM. #thingsthatannoyyou
