Focus at infinity issues...
Hello
Been lurking here and not contributing for a while. Just went out on a whale watching trip friday and took the 50D with the old 80-200 f2.8 magic drainpipe out. Had some strange issues with oof shots when shooting bursts at or near infinity. Results were... variable. Focus just seemed to be all over the place. I couldn't get consistent shots at 200 at infinity, so I was shooting wider than I wanted to. My question is, what the hell is going wrong here? Send the lens in for service? Send the body in for service? Both? I was shooting from a rolling ship in 2-5ft waves for the whale shots, but they were pretty fast shots.
Ok-ish shot for a 4x6 for the kids
185mm f4.5 1/250
oof lunge feeding shot (I have a lot more of these )
180mm f6.7 1/1500
Holy crap, with a bit more cleanup, crop and zoom this is a winner (for a hack like me)
143mm f9.5 1/500
And yes, the barnicles on the pec fin are clear on the raw fileI've concluded that DJSapp was never DJSapp, and Not DJSapp is also not DJSapp, so that means he's telling the truth now and he was lying before.

I believe the recommended setting is ass to mouth.
Let me lock in the system at Warp 2
Push it on into systematic overdrive
You know what to do
