Let's send YetiMan to BBi19 in Utah

From the BBi Utah thread https://www.tetongravity.com/forums/...d.php?t=320085 :

The best thing about these parties is meeting cool folks and getting a taste of the local flavors... excellent tourguiding on the mountain, skiing with rippers, good conversation, quality garnish, and generally soul-smiling with the locdogs & friends in their comfortable mountain habitat.

However, inevitably somebody brings up a sentimental point. Places get busier and more expensive, that's a predictable one. The ones about missing old friends hit hardest. "Man, remember that dude who used to ski here? I wish he could be here now. Anyone heard from him?"

Since this is a highly centralized location for a ski summit, and conveniently next to a decent sized airport, I think we should do what we can to get the tribe together... especially those who might wish to attend but might not otherwise have the means to travel.

So, I'd like to set up a "Sponsor a Mag" system to help out the deserving.

To start, I'll put up $100 to a travel fund for Yeti.

I've never met him but respect his viewpoints, stories, and sense of humanity, and I'd like for him to be included in this gathering (if he's able and interested). I understand that he's spent a bit of time skiing in Utah, but now lives in the midwest and doesn't get the opportunity to ski big hills much anymore. Maybe if we can scrape together enough coins, we could fly him and his wife out for a little vacation.

What do you guys think? If this sucks or is offensive, I'll take it down.

Of course, we could do something like this for the other summits as well. BBi Alpy is similarly close to a good airport.

Not all here are rich dentistes.

A separate thread might be more appropriate for this effort, eh? Gathering thoughts here first.

    ---

Also, let's change the fucking thread title to show the correct year.

This gained a little traction and got these pledges:

... which just about covers a round-trip plane ticket from da UP already.

So I sent a PM to Yeti to ask if he is comfortable with this idea, and for permission to solicit contributions from mags on his behalf.

He is nervous of the spotlight but stoked at the idea, and gave me the go-ahead.

    Here's the GoFundMe page:

Please help send this guy to ski and party in Utah!

Edit to add: you can donate anonymously or attach a name/handle.

Airfare and lift tickets are the basic goal, but I figured we would let the fund roll until about November and see what the final tally is.

Yeti will then get the ability to transfer the money to his bank account to pay for his trip. And if there's extra, maybe buy a new set of skis... or an e-bike, or PT sessions 😎.

Here are the threads from the past BBi minis, for historical reference:

    Some time travel required?

Guess not 'cause all the love flowed down from Alpy and provided that required time transport

I agree with b-bear. This is a good way to get a few deserving mags out to hang with some of us less deserving.

Might be nice to pay for a ticket and lifts, then use any remainder as a future scholarship fund for the occasional TGR spancered mag trip.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...
