Einstein's General Relativity Validated by Star Orbiting Super-Massive Black Hole
Article, Videos, and Release on findings
Gravitational red-shift effects were observed in the star S2 on its close approach to the super-massive black hole at the center of our Galaxy where it reached 3% of the speed of light.
These observations violate Newtonian physics.
These observations match General Relativity (GR) predictions.
While GR has been validated observationally and experimentally in many ways over the years, this is the first validation of this type.
It took four very large telescopes optically combined in a special instrument to make the observations at 25,640 light years from Earth.
26 years of combined telescope images of stars orbiting the Sagittarius A*, the supermassive black hole at the center of the Milky Way
Zooming all the way into the galactic core through multiple telescope images. If you have a 4K screen, now is the time to turn on 4K video in the youtube option button!
Great explanation of what they found, how they did it, and why it matters

I love how Relativity continues to get proven everyday even though they didn't even have the means to test it back when he came up with it.
I mean literally everyday. It's critical to adjust for the expected time dilation difference between a person on the surface of the Earth and GPS satellites in orbit in order for the system to give an accurate position.
