New fire in Socal yesterday below Idyllwild. Caused by moron throwing flares out of his vehicle - since arrested for arson. It's already burned up the mountain beyond Hwy 74/243 and looks to have burned an area that was finally opening up after the last fire 5 years ago - burning pretty much what the last one missed. 7,500 acres. Fuck. Fortunately it missed most of another rad trail network so far.

I just saw a couple recent reports that the Carr fire jumped the Sacramento River (!) and is burning into Redding CA. That’s kind of remarkable.

MANDATORY EVACUATIONS:
The Long Hollow Fire southeast of The Dalles, Oregon (near Durfur) grew inconceivably to over 16,000 acres since last night. The Wasco County Sheriff's Office has issued mandatory level 3 evacuations for areas near the fire's proximity. Our fire model indicates there is still a high-extreme likelihood of the fire continuing to grow. You can find more information on our website, https://www.fireweatheravalanche.org...ng-hollow-fire.

Let's hope he is convicted and sentenced to the maximum below.
Riverside County prosecutors announced Friday that they have charged a 32-year-old man with starting nine separate fires, including a wildfire that has burned more than 11,500 acres in Idyllwild and forced the evacuation of thousands of residents as it rages through the San Jacinto Mountains.
Brandon N. McGlover was charged with 15 felony counts connected to the fires, authorities said. He is charged with one count of aggravated arson, five counts of arson of an inhabited structure and nine counts of arson of forest or wildland. If convicted, he faces a sentence of up to life in prison. He’s being held on $1 million bail.

Holy shit. We're supposed to drive through there next Saturday. I hope 299 is open by then, it's a long ass detour to Weaverville otherwise.
How's this for some small world shit: 2FUNKY's little brother and I played little league together and his step dad was our coach.

^The Las Conchas fire in NM in 2011 burned ~43,000 acres in 14 hours when it started, roughly an acre a second. That was pretty good for the first day of a timber fire (which typically burn at a much slower rate than brush and/or grass), I watched it across the valley from my house and it blew my mind. Again, these rates of spread this year are amazing.
The national head shed figures resources are about to get scarce and things will get worse. National Preparedness Level just got set to 5 (out of 5):

Shit might get real for the next few starts in CA.

Fire cyclone radar:

"The cyclone is apparent at the surface and extends to >18000 ft aloft! This is a very deep rotating convective column!"

Good luck, DTM. I’ll be surprised if it is.
That cyclone is crazy. Saw that earlier this morning.
Mass devastation. Friends have lost homes and all belongings. Fire fighter who was in my brothers crew was killed. RIP.
