Historic running/climbing/ski mountaineering firsts (compiled by Killian Journet).

Good read. My understanding is that he put this together for his own amusement.

Cool to look through those, although if it were Kilian's list one would think he'd have included some Yiannis Kourus performances, e.g., >300km in 24 hours

That was cool. It lead me to this fun piece about Messner: http://www.badassoftheweek.com/messner.html

For sure. Or his Spartathlon record that has stood since the early 80's. Nobody has even been within an hour of his time!

this is fascinating. the modern stuff is pretty well covered, but some obscurities (to me at least) from the past really stand out:

"1982: Joe Meegan ski Niagra Falls"
"1973: Rick Sylvester ski jumps off El Capitan, and parachutes to the base"
"1970: Yuichiro Miura skies Everest with a parachute to slow down"

That one wasn't so much an accomplishment as much as sheer luck. The plan failed yet he somehow didn't die.

needs to be added: "May 1999, Babu Chiri Sherpa spent 21 hours on the summit of Everest without supplementary oxygen, sleeping there."

Glad he included at least one hummel/manfredi/sky descents
