The rumor in Pinkbike comments is that these were supposed to be GT's new ebikes but Pon knew GT was going under and rebranded them as Santa Cruz.

Nah, GT did have 2 e-bikes ready to launch this summer, but they were not Vala and Bullit. Hans Rey is riding one you can see on his Instagram.

@ticketchecker - brakes and suspension are what matter most on these things. I think the step-up for the brakes and suspension between those builds is easily worth the $1,400, let alone much better wheels. If your wallet can manage it, I think it's a no brainer to go with the XT.

    Im leaning the other way
Shimano brakes are all pretty even in power(see "Dale Stone youtube" brake reviews). The better suspension is noticeable but the low end suspension is basically top stuff from 2ish years ago and emtb make low end suspension feel pretty damn good. Weight will do that. Of course the better suspension is better though. Who cares about shifting on an emtb. You shift probably 60-70% less with a motor assist. For wheels i prefer the ride of aluminium but maybe the new carbon wheels are more forgiving, idk. My add ons are bigger 220 rotors for my 12 year old saints(now on their 4th bike but my slx and xt brakes felt the same), higher rise quality bar, a stem length i prefer, conti tires and push on/glued renthal grips

I find if it costs more it's usually better, really about how hard to open the wallet and I'm not one to fiddle with suspension much. Aaand now they're out of MD frames in both builds now, the Deore was the only one ready to ship so the urgency is gone.

Remains to be seen if pricing will change when they get replacement stock.

On the new Bullit the difference betweeen High & low spec is 6 K

On my v1 Bullit the cheaper NX steel cogs were a lot less $$$ to replace also super fast shifting doesnt really matter with 85NM's and besides i can only shift one gear at a time on the SRAM product,

from what i see the up spec model had the Fox fork instead of the ZEB fork and the shock will often be the same, a cheaper SDG tellis dropper which goes up and down reliably is cheap n easy to rebuild
Frame and motor was the same

Seems clear the CX version is the bike people want, not a single size/color/build out of stock on the lower powered SX model.

    Electric Bike Thread

Anyone here with short friends or relatives who have found an enduro Ebike that is actually small?
Wife has been on a small Levo and it’s always felt a half size too big. She’s been on Giant, Cube, Ibis, and Orbea with similar reports.
She’s Five One for all intents and purposes.

Yea that xs Transmission would be a perfect option if it had a full power motor and a bigger battery.
Lukewarm e bikes are a no go for us.

    proportionally for a 5'1 person, a 350w motor with a 450w boost is a full power ebike

Maybe the case for a hardcore XC motivated rider who loves laying down power and spinning like a sewing machine.
But for someone who wants to chillax and let a full power emtb grind you uphill the way god intended, a weak unit is all disappointment.
Wife demoed the Orbea weak Ebike last summer. She was literally getting dropped by our friend on his analog bike while she was in turbo. That’s not happening again.

you have to test SL vs full power with the same person and it will show SL is slower except now you have 3 classes of bike n rider that are incompatible acoustic/ SL/ full power the OSO in that link had styling that never really took off so they might be had for cheap somewhere ?

Quoting still broken for me through website. In answer to your question, when buying a used ebike (especially Shimano based one), you need to essentially add $1,200 to the price to cover potential motor replacement. I say especially Shimano because they've made them unrepairable if stuff goes wrong, and as second owner you get no warranty and would be buying a new motor if it dies.

My Bullit shit the bed after 4 yrs 5600 kms with the dreaded E01022 code its unfortunalte cuz maintenance was all up to date so I think the the bike would have gone the whole season with no repairs Its nothing a sharp visa card can't fix so cha-ching picked up a new Vala

edit: so is anybody in Canada interested in a used but not abused 2020 Bullit with a bad motor other wise its in petty good shape including the battery, or any ideas on price ?

Figured the motor is the wild card on used. If he’s telling the truth the ad says 27 miles on it, I know the shop he bought it from and can see what they know about it. From reading old reviews that Shimano motor was outdated when this bike was new.

Does it compare somewhat with a current SL bike?

Just got laid off so e-bike budget could be slashed below buying new outside of my pro account with Transition. They have plenty of stock in Regulator SX’s but I think the CX is really what I want. Could also grab the cheaper SX and see what things look like price wise when the next batch of tarriffed CX’s come in at.

Naw, old Heckler still has more torque than a current SL plus bigger battery to handle the higher power consumption (and heavier weight). SL ebikes are fine if you're used to riding a normal bike and just want to squeeze in about 50% more distance than you normally do in 1-2 hours. Full power basically lets you double what you normally can do in the same time. Running both in full power will still probably deplete them in about 2-3 hours though. To put some numbers behind that, on a pedal bike I can do about 1,200'ish in an hour after work. With my Fazua 60 eeb, I can do about 2,100'ish in that hour. Bosch CX does about 3,000'ish in that hour. But running the Fazua 60 dry in turbo gets me about 4,300' in like 2.5-3 hours, and running the CX (with 600wh battery) gets me about 5,100' in about 2:15-2:30. This is on winch & plummet type trails (~850' in 3 miles). Total vert goes down when I ride places that have less steep climbs. And of course running modes less than turbo gets you more vert / runtime as well. Just food for thought... both are fun, just try to be realistic about what you want to use it for. I mostly use it to get as much descending in an hour after work after picking the kid up from school, before having to cook dinner.

Just met two SC employees at a trailhead over the weekend. One on a new Vala and other on the new Bullit. They were raving about the Bullit. I keep inching my way towards owning one.

the V3 Bullit was a great bike and I imagine the V4 will also be, having been on V3 Bullit for the last 4 yrs I was gona buy the new V4 bullit but the LBS didnot have it and what they were going to be getting was gona cost 1900$ mo money for a higher spec SO I went for the Vala70 cuz I was over biked on the Bullit anyhow so I donot miss the extra DH capability of a Bullit

so i see a lot of what i find to be a proven parts spec on the cheapest Vala, it which FEELS much lighter/ more lively altho I weighed it and I still get 50lbs , you can spend a lot or you can spend A LOT so IME save thousands and just get the lowest spec which in the case of SC was still 9500can$

the Bosch motor is sposed to be the same 85nm as the Shimano EP8 but there is definatly has more power slogging thru low speed obstacles or making that last bit of steep hill,

I do miss not having a display but i think I'm sposed to set my i-phone up for that, havent got into that yet

I liked the VPP rear end but the new 4 bar to accomadate a Bosch motor seems fine, I think either way you canot go wrong with Vala or the Bullit
