Ketamine is a very good drug for producing anesthesia and heavy sedation without impairing breathing and circulation. It also lasts a fairly long time without redosing. We used it a lot in the burn unit for tubbing and dressing changes. Other sedatives like Versed have a higher risk of respiratory depression at doses needed to produced the necessary effect.

I’m not outraged in the slightest. Thought it was a cool detail that should be shared.

That rescue certainly was slow, difficult and physically challenging!
It makes perfect sense...until you think about it.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

Afak, one of the divers they sent in the end is one of the few docs that have the profiency A) To dive complex systems and B) To perform the necessary process.
    A bit older geezer.

Edit : Dr. Richard Harris. I personaly would trust his call if I would come upon to this kind of situation...

The floggings will continue until morale improves.
