Figure this might deserve it's own thread

13 safe on a ledge in a cavern in the Tham Luang cave system in the northern province of Chiang Rai

The challenge now is the logistics of getting them out safely

So awesome that they found them. The rescue is just a matter of time now.

Some amazing good news. 9 days no food, they are going to be pretty weak little kids. Dive sounds quite challenging. Hopefully there is a way out that is easier than the route divers are using.

Think how crazy and irresponsible that is to take those kids into a cave system like that.

Did he at least have a flash light?

^^^ Cave Diving is one of the most dangerous things I can think of.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

So... how to get them out? Will the waters recede? (Flood water, right?) SCUBA for all?

It’s a different time. Kids in USA can’t even ride a bike to the park without a parent any more.

Apparently the boys will be replaced by Spain's coach. The rescue will be delayed until they manage to find the guy.

    Good one old goat.

9 days in a completely dark carve, no food, sediment filled water. What must it have taken to get this far. Circardian rhythm is shot after that long.

This is going to be one intense rescue. Talk about stress and adventure at the same time. Not only do these youngsters need to learn how to scuba, but their first open water dive will be blind in murky muddy fast-moving water. I hope they all survive and are able to tell the story to their grandchildren

I didn't know Thailand had Navy seals. Saw some Thai sailors once. They had the whitest uniforms I've ever seen, blinding white, whiter than white. The kind of white that you knew that any Navy with uniforms that white had to be competent.

Wow, this whole thing is crazy. I saw this up on the news and for a while did not realize they were trapped in a fucking cave, holy shit!

It looks like they may wait for the flood waters to go down before attempting rescue:

    Fuck caves.

    Also reminds me of Manbearpig.

I have been following this story from the beginning.
Here is the best reporting out there I have found.

    http://www.chiangmaicitylife.com/new...ped-thai-cave/

Reading the whole this is quite the story. Most of those kids cant swim so yeah its going to be tough to get them out.
AS far as the coach goes, yeah it was dumb in hindsight but it seems that these kids all did stuff together with him and went on adventures all the time with him. Sounds like he really cared for these guys and built up quite a comrade with them.
Hes young himself too. They all were frequent visitors of the cave and knew it quite well. I think I would rather have this guy as my kids coach than some of the douchebags I have seen on the pitch here in Vancouver. I was literally in tears a few times this week and especially when I found out the good news.

"He said that two Navy SEAL medical officers have sacrificed themselves to stay with the boys inside the cave for the next two to three months if necessary." That's some very serious balls.

It’s a mile underwater to reach safety. A mile!

I’m a diver and a former college swimmer, that would tough for me in those conditions.
