Gaping the peloton has been done, old news.
Dave Watson in 2003, with his name painted on the road, and a little too much rebound in his forks:
And this one in 2013, better jump, not so good optics on the location and filming:

Just because it's been done, doesn't mean it isn't badass.

these next couple of days...wow
tomorrow has col du pre as just an afterthought in the middle of the parcours
then, Thurs, we've got col de la madeleine, col de la croix de fer & alpe d'huez all in a day
I bet Fri is a fast day, tho the climbers get a reprieve

Question is Which team - Sky or Movistar - starts the pain train tomorrow. I’m thinking Movistar...

This stage is beautiful. That shot, racing across the dam, was spectacular.

Fantastic finish. I'm really hopeful that G can last the final week.

I hope nobody has Cavendish or Kittle as their sprinters. Both were eliminated today based on the time limit rule.
And being the douchbag that he is, Cavendish shoulder barged a TV camera man as he rode across the finish line. He is such a poor sport.

Wow, great stage. Gonna be some tension at Sky team dinner. Tomorrow should be hugely entertaining.

I don't think there are tensions in Sky's team dinner yet. Right now they are loving having two guys up there that they can use to toy with other riders. It'll get wild if Froome goes pop and G disregards team orders. But that isn't what we're seeing yet.

Agreed, great racing today
Disappointed with Quintana and Landa however

Tomorrow they will get a chance to shine. Their efforts today semed to indicate some reluctance to go all in. The other GC stars did go all in.
Thomas scored me some serious points as road captain today but seems unlikely to go like that on AdH. Froome may have something left but I'm less certain of his recovery than in years past. That will hamper Sky's performance, which will limit Thomas', so I switched to Quintana as road captain.
Love them or hate them, Sky have this tour pretty well figured..... For today's surgical precision, chapeau to Team Sky.The sad truth is that whine does not age well

The way things are going Froome and Thomas are going to end up attacking earlier and earlier to avoid having to attack a teammate already up the road. More of a chance they blow up.

Different climbers are suited to different types of climbs. Todays lower gradient, steady climb suits people like Tom, G, and to a lesser extend, Froome. Put out power, time trial up the mtn.
Landa, Quintana, and even Bardet are much more suited to uneven climbs with steeper slopes.
