Conditions were great this weekend. Snowpack is low overall though and will melt fast if upcoming precipitation is rain up high

There hasn't been any rain at pass level just light snow flurries but it hasn't been freezing hard at night so a lot of the cornices are shedding and potential for loose wet it's higher than I've ever seen out there.

Yeah I made it up for a short loop. I got in about noon on friday and hung out at camp until SVS rolled up after a few laps.
He said Gardiner wasn't a favorite hike for him. And most of us.
We went to town and had a boxcar burger, made by russkies, and stocked up on nutter butters and junk at the beartooth grocery.
After a quiet evening of camp tv and smoky treats we crashed, him tenting, me in the wagen.
I slept pretty well but got the crik in my neck started and it was throbbing by 9am. I hung out for a while as SVS and Mofro Jr. took a few laps. It looked good but I just wasn't feeling it so I bailed off to home.
Had a headache all the way to Cody but it finally cracked and a good night's rest fixed me.
It didn't seem as busy to me for a good opening, but the caliber of kooks was top notch as usual. The boys from Boston college chatted about everything under the sun, just to keep from having to slide up to the edge.
I too was trying to avoid sliding in, in my Asics tennies. That woulda been scary as fuckall.

Sorry about the neck, it's a pretty drive for sure!

Digging the pics and great to see SVS’s turns on the Blade Optics. I don’t think I knew you were on a set of those and andrew will be psyched to know that too

I can take it.
Not the first time either.
That lil road trip evokes decades of memories for me. Not to mention it's always a beauty drive, eh?
The turns are rarely the draw for me anymore. I'm into the camaraderie that the place
creates. Was good to just hang with SuperK and watch the Cow moose meander by.
And smoke weed.
And watch the mushrooms burn. not so good.
My C5 issues are making camping tedious at the least and unbearable in the worst case scenario.

^^^^
Fuck mag, I'ma gonna need a shaman at this point. Or a fused neck some day.
And a 10 hr RT drive is a cakewalk for me. I'd drive to Helena for some magic.
Nice pics in the fishy thread...

Sorry for the interruption. By the time I am up that way in July the snow will be minimal. Although I did get snowed on in August of 2012 driving over to Red Lodge, so maybe not. Will it be going in early July or donzo?
Optic 104s or 114? Interested in both and love to know how they play - tips and tails on the 104 are softish? Only hand flexed the 114s and they were nice.Set waves, powder days

I think I’ve been too spoiled by the weather we had in 2021. That shit was mint.
I’m sure it will ski great if any of that forecasted moisture lands, frozen or otherwise. I’m actually more concerned about road conditions given my bald ass summer tires. Not seeing any freezing temps currently at elevation, but mountains…
Unfortunately this would be my last window to get it done for 2023. Lady is outta town for the weekend. If I do go I might leave asscrack Saturday morn. Currently gots none of the gear put together.

They mentioned last Saturday that the temps had not fallen below freezing up high for days.
That Friday and Saturday were the first overnight freezes and if they don't have many more, the pack is likely to be brutally deep and sloshy. Like 8-18" deep.
Plenty of snow still on top but I can see it going away in a whimper.
Also, Beartooth pass and Red lodge are beautiful when it rains. Clouds in and out of the canyon and fewer campers. Quiet and misty is good for partying...
