Praxis Lhasa Pows?
After skiing 3 hours pretty much non stop here is my take.
Me: 5’10 195lb nekkid. 48yy
Like to ski with my shins in the boot.
I prefer long turns as fast as conditions allow. Won’t drop anything over 20’ unless uber primo conditions. In the gym pretty much year round and strong af.
I prefer skis with larger turn radius and on the stiffer side.
On to the ski now that the lame shit is done.
Mine are Heavy Core, 4/5 flex Tineo veneer.
Mounted -.5 from the new dot, exactly where my old Lhasa FAT was mounted.
It’s been established that the new ski has a +1cm Mount point from the old ski.
Conditions: boot top pow, cut up pow, some areas of big chunks of cut up pow, soft groomers, firm groomers, some patches of ice, soft bumps, some air time, trees.
I was pretty much able to put them through the gamut.
In fresh pow they are silly easy to ski. Drive the tips or come up neutral and just slay. The new tail allows for easier slarving. Totally effortless.
Chop pow. Nice athletic stance and just mob through it like it ain’t no thang. None of the tip flap from the piles like the old ski. Not a plowing effect but just a slight push back on big piles of higher density snow. Completely gone now, probably due to mine being the 4/5 flex. Just slice and dice!
Groomers. CARVE A DAMN TRENCH. Plain and simple. They fucking run like a GS ski and carve like one.
Trees. The new tail rocker totally allows you to pivot around with complete ease. So fast in trees and intuitive. Never comes loose until you tell it. Even then it’s just think it and it does it. Completely controlled as well. It doesn’t just wash away once it gets loose.
Air. Nothing crazy as it’s early and I take it somewhat easy early season. Plenty of time to get rad later. I did get about 8’ of air off a couple cat tracks and went probably 35’ down the hill. Total stompage. The stiff flex just didn’t give a fuck. They really don’t seem heavy in the air. I was able to trick them a little. Nothing to crazy.
Bumps. Best be on your shit. Slipping through the troughs was easy. If you are going to carve them and air a few, best be ready. Super fun. I won’t be selling them due to bump performance.
We nailed it on the tail rocker! Along with the Praxis Build, this is the ski I knew/wanted the Lhasa FAT to be.
I built mine to go up against the 1.5 Flex Super Goat. So far I can say it was a success. For me this ski is a much better ski than the 191 Billy Goat was. Not that it is necessarily a bad ski, far from it . I just had one issue with it. Not the thread for that.
So I had Keith set my bevels at 1 base 2 side as per my old Lhasa. I had him leave them sharp, no detune as I wanted to set that. I detuned them 16.5” from the tip and 8.5” from the tail with a file them a gummy stone. I also ran the gummy stone one time down the whole length of the ski with light pressure as the edges were shaving sharp. Took the gummy with me but never felt the need to adjust it.
Mount point. Again I’m -.5 from the dot. I could see a guy going on the dot, that’s it. It seems crazy to me to go forward of the dot. I would be very hesitant to do so.
Thank you Splat for talking Keith into this. Thank you Keith for helping out and pressing this bad boy. Thank you everyone who gave input on the diff tail rocker designs. The one we settled on fucking rules.
The only down fall of this ski is all the questions you will get on the chair and standing in line.Last edited by 2FUNKY; 11-30-2018 at 07:36 PM.

Haha! High five, man! Sounds like a winner.
I know your skiing and feel so stoked at the great review! But we're gonna have to get as much of the tribe together somehow, to see which pair is fastest. I'll buy a beer for anyone who can beat mine 😎

Dopeee. At the moment I think I’m mounting on the line. Still want to wait and see how others like it there and at +.5

Drool worthy commentary, Funky. Thanks!
Quick question ... are you saying that the RES on Goats has nothing on the Lhasas in chop, or that on balance, it's too close to care given the Lhasa's versatility?

Praxis Lhasa Pows?
Yeah I’m pretty interested in a little more in depth comparison to the SG 1.5 as well, as that is my most likely next ski purch. That might just change if another run of these happens. Great review, thanks! I’ll continue following with some serious jealous drooling.

Praxis Lhasa Pows?
I’m torn. I bet I’ll like the ski at both the dimple and +0.5. I doubt I’ll notice the difference.
Splat says + 0.5 is doable. I trust him.
However, after reading the 2funky review I’m probably gonna go dimple. I have really disliked great skis mounted too far forward, especially those built by keith. I loved the GPO at -1. If I were -1.5 on the GPO, I’d probably still love it. I did not love it on the dimple.
Couple that with my plan to slap shifts on these and my lack of grace or agility on kick turns, I probably need that slightly shorter tail :P
Seriously, though, I’ll probably go dimple.
Cue the “dude it’s half a centimeter” comments.Last edited by SupreChicken; 11-30-2018 at 09:02 PM. Reason: Fat thumbs.

Black jacket looks sharp.
MAA core, no carbon, 3/4 flex:
both skis measured the same.
Sounds like it rips firmpack way mobetter, which is the minor demerit for the 191bg. Love the look of the long sidecut in these!
I think it's possible for the average of all scores to be higher for the Lhasa... but I won't declare it till back-to-backing. Shape is very sexy... I caress them often.
191bg fucking rules the soft chop, but if you're a heavy strong guy, it's possible to step over the flex once in a while. I'm 175-180 in shorts nowadays and ski a small hill, and find them extremely well suited to general blasting. But five years ago when I skied Crystal a lot and weighed 10 lbs more, I'd occasionally wish for +10cm of ski.
The heavy core 4/5 Lhasas have a venerable nemesis in the SG, as 2Studly posits. Be cool to see a b2b review.
Heavy 3/4 skis should put a fair fight to the 191bg. Any of these in the bunch? I almost did.
And MAA 3/4 are 300g slimmer than 191bg, perhaps feeling a bit light when the chunder rears, I fear, my dear.
Apples to apples, bitchasses!
A most nerdly count, highlighting prior and future Travel Ski contenderz:
191bg + ft12 ---> 2475g + 572g = 3047g
191lf2 + shift --> 2150g + 897g = 3047g
Inderdassting!
Well he's got everyone's ears... gotta declare how jacked and tan he is.

Praxis Lhasa Pows?
If Tahoe has good snow I should hopefully get mine out next Monday/Tuesday.
Assuming Keith lets me borrow a drill He was skeptical of my love of paper templates though haha.Last edited by Muggydude; 12-04-2018 at 06:59 PM.

Just got my ass kicked by the flu. The shirt crew was down with it. The ski shop had people out with it. I was sick af. Now I'm scrambling to get things in order and I have not been able to get back on the snow. I'm waiting to hear from someone who's skied them while waiting to get back up and move the damn bcl on those demo bindings. So, basically, I'm flailing and fell short and apologize for that.
