I wonder if we can do a 30 pair countdown?
I’m in, plus splat and muggy makes 3.....
Also, just wonder what the actual cost per pair of production on skis like these is. For no reason other than I’m curious. Setup, prototype etc has got to be pretty large.

This isn't directed at you (you're right about some of the other cost components), but if splat were to post the variable costs involved in makimg a pair of skis, some jerk would decide that they should only pay $50 over that price.
Of course, the unfortunate reality of a small volume business is that the infrastructure overhead along with labor costs seems to contribute a larger proportion of operating expenses than for higher volume businesses.
I doubt that many would make the business decision to run a business for the profit that Keith is making, and all of us grateful that Keith (& formerly splat) pursue this labor of love.

Agreed 100% As a past small business owner the intangible costs are killer. A markup that allows for a good living is totally fair.
I have an idea of what it takes for a Chinese factory to spit out a ski (not sure the ski company is losing money on $100 employee deals) but that is so far from the truth for a small handcrafted operation. Maybe in a private moment I can talk w on of the salt lake custom builders and get an idea.

Maybe not even factoring in overhead and general operational costs, Keith may only break even or lose some $$ on some of the skis he sells the mags on here after all our discounts/rewards/custom spring sale pricing. Skis aren't cheap, especially when you make each one by hand and each one is different, then factor is top-of-the line construction materials, expensive veneers, etc...

Yeah, I'm a one man shop and am continually amazed at the costs that show up.
I deal with fabricators (machinists) who deliver partial batches. I find myself making multiple trips to both him, my polisher and anodizer when in theory, I should only be making two round trips to each (drop off and pickup).
Last month I put together a spreadsheet to try to allocate time and transportation costs per unit manufactured. To say it was sobering was an understatement.
I'll bet (for production skis) Keith easily has $450-500 sunk per pair.
Maybe the only redeeming attribute is that the "testing" part of r&d is fun.

Can we please not cloud this thread with the minutiae of cost to build and retail pricing.

Praxis Lhasa Pows?
Ordered mine, gonna be enduro veneer medium flex.
If ever there was a great time to support your local ski makers, this is it. Want to see those order numbers bump into the 20+ range. Mad props to Pat and Keith going out of their way to cater to a relatively small group of skiers

I'm headed to Praxis today to fondle the protos and get some pics and weights.
I'll have an update later or tonite. Is there lift-served snow anywhere now to go ski them?

Even Vets is down to a slideslip and three turns on cups and runnels these days to maintain his streak....not enough.

From Keith:
Nylon top, enduro with carbon – appears that will come out to be just south of 10lbs. The proto pair is currently 10lbs 2oz but once we finishing tuning and demask them I think they will be about 10lbs.
Production medium flex might be a couple oz lighter than that. Seems like those of you wanting heavy cores should be able to get your 2500g pair pretty easy, especially if you go stiffer flex.

This is awesome. Probably too much overlap with my 187 fats to justify taking up a preorder spot. Sure is tempting though.
