I’m not sure this is the case with all religions. Buddhism and native/aboriginal (like Native American) religions come to mind. That got me to wondering about some things I’m pretty ignorant about. Does Judaism have a structure like some of the Christian religions that enrich the “church”? Islam? Though those two have their control thing going on. But along with the Catholic Church, evangelical Christian churches often seem designed to pour bucks into the upper hierarchy’s pockets, I just wondered how common that is. But yeah, I’m kind of ignorant about the financial side of many religions.

The American Worldview Inventory (AWVI) 2021, an annual survey that examines the perspectives of adults aged 18 and over in the United States, found that while 57 percent of Millennials (born 1984-2002) consider themselves to be Christian, 43 percent “don’t know, care, or believe that God exists.”

Comparatively, 70 percent of Generation X (Gen X) Americans (born 1965-1983), 79 percent of Baby Boomers (born 1946-1964), and 83 percent of the Builder Generation (born 1927-1945) consider themselves to be Christian, while 31, 28, and 27 percent, respectively, “don’t know, care, or believe that God exists.”

According to the survey, only 48 percent of Millennials say one should “treat others as you want them to treat you,” compared to 53 percent of Gen Xers, 81 percent of Boomers, and 90 percent of Builders.

At the same time, 38 percent of Millennials agree with the statement “you try to get even with people who have wronged you,” while 33 percent of Gen Xers, 12 percent of Boomers, and 10 percent of Builders say the same.

Yup, I guess kindness is overrated for the latest generations. Masochism on the rise as regular life is so easy now that the body seeks out external artificial pain and suffering to stimulate itself, whether it's obtained from another or via the self.

Yup, I make no assumptions about how anyone else wants to be treated. I'm equal opportunity, since 99.9% of the posters here are syphilitic assholes whose entire gene pools are wastes of oxygen, I treat everyone here the same way. You have to know your audience.

I live in a very christian town where it is well known they fuck each other over so if someone goes out of his way to tell me he is a christian I automaticaly don't trust him cuz obviously he is looking for a leg up over the next guy

My observation as well. My friends' kids (elementary and HS aged) are not "___ist" in any way.

It would seem even the winky emoticon is lost along with the nuances of VM.

But i would return to you - if these young adults are so pure with their acceptance of the downtrodden, why are we as parents so concerned with bullying within facebook, twitter and the like. Why are there kids taking their lives because of online bullying? I have daughter finishing 3rd grade. I don't have many concerns with her ability to thrive in most any social group she chooses, but the markers of the same pressures of when I was her age are still very much there. Nature vs nurture is still being debated, but I agree with hopeful bias, our society is maturing, if ever so slowly.

To the topic, my conversations with my daughter about the possibility of a god or gods is very frank. I ask what she thinks, and challenge her notions of the unexplainable, and how they should or shouldn't influence her behaviour to others. And how to protect herself from those that would seek to exploit or otherwise gain advantage over her because of a religious teaching turned weapon. She hopefully has understood though, that she is welcome to dream of fantastical explanations of how the universe is put together beyond our understanding, and share those stories. Just not to judge others based on their acceptance or lack thereof of those fantasies.
