“Do unto others” is bullshit. If I treated everyone how I wanted to be treated I would be a complete asshole....

Why not, in many cases having any Religion seems to make people selfish dicks. Maybe that is just another human trait, like eye color.
I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

Maybe?
I just hate the small talk chit-chat BS.
And for the talky socializer people they love that shit.
Leave me alone and stay off my lawn KQ!
My motto is “treat others how THEY want to be treated”
Of course there is a lot of speculation using that but usually in the first couple minutes I can tell someone’s personality type.

Core Shot thinks people who identify as Christian are haven’t been trained since birth to answer those questions in a particular manner?
This is how I imagine a significant number of them think

Yup. There ain't no quicker way to dickish behaviour than fear, especially the fear of the (lack of) afterlife. And there ain't no better huckster than the god of Abraham and its religions at assaying that fear.
Altruism doesn't necessarily correlate with religion
children with a religious upbringing show less altruism/

And, as was already mentioned, it's an inherently biased "survey" put together by christians no less, that has no direct anchor to actual action/behavior. What you say is not often what you do, especially with emotionally charged issues, and it doesn't get much more emotional than religion.

I wish I had faith, I wish I was a believer. I just can’t lower my IQ enough to believe.
I was recently at a funeral after a tragic death of a young family member and the comfort the family had thinking young Jake was now in heaven with his grandparents looking down on us was humbling.
My thoughts are he’s a rotting piece of meat deteriorating inside a fancy box in dirt.
I was jealous of their comfort.
I was also at a funeral years ago for a friend and coworker who had their house burn down. She lost 5 children, all under 7 years old (I’m tearing up) and was back at work a month later. She was super religious and her church comforted her.
The older I get I can see the value in that comfort but you have to truly believe to receive that comfort.

I don't think you have to believe to take advantage of the comfort of a mourning process.

@AK Same here. There are studies suggesting religious people live happier lives.

I certainly get why some people need to believe in something, even if it's ridiculous. The reality that we have no fucking idea why we're here and where we're going is scary.

Religion is like a penis
- it’s OK to have one
- It’s fine to be proud of it
- It’s not OK to whip it out in public
- And it’s not OK to shove it down the throats of children
