First thing I heard when I turned on the news this morning. I'm so sad. Tony was my unrequited man-crush since I first discovered him years ago around the "Kitchen Confidential" days.
His life seemed to be going well, apparently great newish relationship, all the obvious success. What the hell happened?
Though I never met him I will miss him.

What’s so shocking is that this guy inspired so many people to live life.

Very sad for his friends and family to go through this. One of the crushing things when dealing with internal conflicts is that it's so often invisibile to others until it's too late.
Rest easy, Tony. I'll start re-reading Kitchen Confidential and A Cook's Tour for you.

More often than not, people with depression eventually get shunned by many of the people around them. Then they act surprised when these things happen.
A reminder to always be kind to one another and stick by your friends and family.

sorry to hear this news this morning. I enjoyed watching Anthony on his shows and reading his books. Having lost friends and family to suicide I can only wish them the best strength and hope they come to terms with this loss. RIP Mr Bourdain.

Ah shit. I've often posted that I think his shows were among the best television ever. Shit. He always seemed like he was battling some demons, but in the last couple years it seemed he was winning. He actually seemed happy in the shows featuring his new GF Asia Argento.
Haven't watched any of the latest season yet but recorded them all. That's what we normally watch in the summer doldrums. It'll be tough indeed.

When someone asks the simple and usually trivialized "what makes you happy?" and reaches out to people in that way, I think it says something about the questions that person asks themselves. There was in Mr. Bourdain that sense of something emotionally raw beneath the 'I don't give a fuck' surface.

Awful
Not every day you come across someone that can pull off a show like his. RIP

Try to catch as much as you can of his archive on Netflix over the next week, because his contract ends very soon.

when a guy like Bourdian decides there's nothing left to live for...ya gotta think. I suspect relapse, maybe auto erotic choking death..who knows?

This is a bummer.
I cannot imagine how much depression must weigh on someone that suicide is the only escape.
