Best ski run at your home hill - whatcha got?

Whether you are flowing alpy pointing your turgid Praxis RX at Debbie’s Gold;

Or maybe Harry picking a line off the Lone Peak;

I’m curious what you Mags think are the best runs at your local hill?

Not necessarily the gnarliest line but the one run you wouldn’t want a fellow Mag to miss if he/she had one day to slide around your personal playground.

I learned to ski at Dodge Ridge in the central Sierra and for us growing up, it was The Face off chair 3. Steep, ungroomed, under the lift. If you wanted a little air you could go off the right side of the rock for a fun little drop, or if you had the skilz, and the snow was right, you could send it straight.

At the town hill:
Inbounds: Big Rocks chute #3
OB: drop off of Deception Peak into...um, I forget.

, or the Nambé chutes.

At nearby Taos:
IB: maybe something off Tresckow Ridge like North Face or Slap Shot...but then there’s the West Ridge runs...
OB: Sin Nombre near Wheeler Peak. Though Lake Fork Peak is closer to the trailhead and classic.

Not looking for what makes the “best run”, and I totally agree with you, but what I’m looking for is which-inbounds- named- ski run “defines” your home hill

It's a big halfpipe, catches snow well and has great pitch.

WP - Sluice Box -> Arrowhead Trees -> Rock Garden
Favorite tree run. Garden serves up some nice drops.

Right, and my response is still the same. It varies season to season, storm to storm, arguably day-to-day in many places. Weather, snowfall, wind, skier traffic, relative skier skill level all conspire to keep it constantly in flux. There are "best" runs in December and January that get too much sun to be anything other than a fool's errand to ski by March, then there are slopes that take until March to be skiable.

Is it a bluebird day with great new snow? A chalky, wind buff day? A howling storm day? Spring corn season? The "iconic" run at most resorts will change in each one of those scenarios, along with a host of others.

But I'll let you return to the regularly scheduled summertime ski-related navel gazing.

Well, for certain values of “best.” I may be confusing all this with “favorite.”

At Mammoth I would nominate Climax. It is not real a run, or even a bowl, but the whole top of the mountain served by the gondola. Options from easy steep to "no fuckinng way I'm going to drop that" steep. The Avi chutes have to be up there, but are a bit more condition dependent, but better chute type runs only not nearly as long.

I’d say Climax to Dry Creek to base of 5. Give a sense of the character of the mountain.

At KW, id likely link some mini golf, as that is what that hill mostly is. Otherwise, for character, maybe Hell’s Delight steeps falling to the Handrail technical. Or East Wall to Headwaters to Snow Snake Gully. Or Ski School Chute to Fireball Lower Cham to Dang Cliffs to Ditch of Doom. All give a sense of the mountain.

But it all depends on the day.

Would you put Climax over the runs off Chair 23? IF a visitor could only ski one or the other?
