12-Spd XTR, details released....
It's here!
https://dbikerstore.es/shimano-xtr-177
Vaguely considering a crank and rear derailleur, plus a Garbaruk 11-45t 10spd cassette, to run with my 10-spd XTR 980 series shifter and brakes. Hummmm. Though it would be nice if shimano would just release a high end wide range 10spd cassette too.

Looks like something that costs about the same as XX1 Eagle, except a bit heavier and with less hub options, and with less refined 1x rings and cogs.
But I bet it shifts pretty nicely, and I bet the derailleurs are more durable than Sram's.

Love the oneup 50T on a XTR/XT 11sp.
Cool that it only cost me $350 as well.

Yeah, but XTR is 51T. You're one upped.

I JUST had my first ride on the e13 TRSR cassette. I may need to go down to a 28T for some of the grinder ups, but made my local quick 800' vert one last night without too much issue... Then I was fantasizing about that extra granny... then this.
What's a man ta do.
We all knew it was coming, I was surprised it didn't drop this spring, but why would it...now they get to sell upgrades.www.dpsskis.com

Until they come out with the SLX and XT version, it's a pretty inconsequential announcement for a majority of riders.
That said, I'm sure they will before the new 2019 bikes come out, because as of now you can't even find an OEM build kit that isn't SRAM. Shimano needs to start taking part of that market back soon.

Freehub stuff aside, any idea if the 11 speed 10-45 will be compatible with current generation 11 speed shifters and derailleurs? It sounds like it is quite literally the 12 speed 10-51 cassette with the large cog removed, so the spacing could be different.

I want the silent freehub. The rest, meh... but I wouldn't turn down a reliable set of lightweight 4 piston brakes.

A silent freehub and four piston brakes are appealing.
It would be nice to drop the weight of the Saint/Zee options currently in play.
That said, the level of engineering that they put into the complete package can't be overlooked. The Derailleur/shifter changes may look incremental, however you have to factor in how it all works together.
Looking forward to seeing how this all trickles down to XT/SLX.

I havent thought super hard about this, but how does a narrow-wide cassette ring work with 51 teeth? Or is the cassette not n/w and only the 1x ring is?

Nyet. The spacing for the 12 spd cassette is different than the 11 spd cassette. Even the 11 spd 10-45 is spaced like the 12 spd cassette
XTR will be fall 2018 release. XT is scheduled for fall 2019 and everything else thereafter.
Only the 1x ring is N/W. The cassette has to have shifting ramps

Meh.
Shimano's off the back. Again. Another new freehub standard, and it's not open sourced like SRAM did right off the bat? Good luck with that. There's nothing better than sliding down snow, and flying through the air

fall 2019 is a bummer!
excited to try this with an eagle cassette, shimano rd/shifters have always been more reliable than sram!
seems like the cranks got lighter as well!

XTR M9000 has been so dead that you could find the cranks for well under $200 for several years now. This new series looks great, but I can't imagine them selling ANY of the new hubs and cassettes - after seeing the reactions, I hope they go back to the drawing board and come up with something less ridiculous. Complete disaster.
