Leather couch smells like piss.
Got a sweet leather couch except that it smells like piss when the sun shines on it.
It is not piss.
It is the tanning or something. Has anyone ever dealt with this? I feel like I should be able to give it some loving caresses with some product. Help.

I should add that it is old, like 20 years. It was formerly in an office that got no direct sun. It did not smell like piss in that office. It does not smell like piss in the winter, either.

well, in the old days they used piss to tan leather so maybe it is.
Ammonia in water acts as a caustic but weak base. Its high pH breaks down organic material, making urine the perfect substance for ancients to use in softening and tanning animal hides. Soaking animal skins in urine also made it easier for leather workers to remove hair and bits of flesh from the skin.

Nope. That's piss you smell... Something about getting stunned by 12,000 volts before you have your throat slit makes you piss a lot. Or so I hear, I top out at 5500 volts myself, you know, for safety.....
Have you tried placing a non neutered male cat nearby just for blaming purposes?
