We have Amazon shipments probably two to three times a week. Living in the sticks, 1.5 hours from the nearest Costco or Lowe's makes it nearly obligatory. Diapers to odd auto parts, kids clothes and camera gear, Prime is a steal for us. That said, I visit local shops just as often for hardware, auto parts, fishing and hunting stuff, etc. But when I know what I want and it isn't an emergency, it simply saves time. And I've had literally zero mishaps in years.

Actually yes, that and the programming on FireTV is totally worth a C note a year. My renewal is next month and it is auto debit for $99, not seeing any price increases. I know they were increasing their monthly plans but pretty sure the annual fee was supposed to stay at $99

We order 2-3 times/ week. Means each order is going up about $0.15 after no increases in how many years.

I love how people bitch about it, do you think amazon is a non-profit? Commodities are always rising so the ask is Amazon just absorbs it?

Take my $20 a year so my wife buys what we actually need and doesn’t spend $150 every time she walks in a Target.

I might drop Prime if not for the video streaming. I still try to shop local when I can.

Nobody locally of course sells full blown unlocked, cheap, non-contract phones so I ordered hers from Amz. Free 1-day shipping (w/ Prime), fulfilled/shipped by Amazon. Sweet, right? Saw the Amazon courier roll up and dump it off like 15 feet from my front door. Literally dropped it and ran off. I know those guys are under the gun from their Amazon overlords, but sheesh I did not like that. Picked up the box and rattle rattle rattle. Opened up the beat up box and there was literally ZERO packing material inside. I didn't even bother opening the contents. Called Amazon and complained they didn't protect it at all and that I refused to accept this one, so they overnighted another unit. SAME FREAKING THING. Rattle rattle rattle. WTF? I shipped both units back to them and it took them like a week to receive and refund my money. Lesson learned. I'll order straight from the manufacturer next time.

I'd say that two in a row could be an "isolated case," but they have definitely become increasingly worse with every passing year. They used to be really stellar and there's good reason they grew to where they are, but alas, all good things must come to an end. I'm over their lousy shipping, delivery, and customer service. I've just had too many utterly destroyed boxes to want to bother with them unless I absolutely have to. That said, they're still great for what they originally set out to do...books!!!
Wait, so the phone, which was in its consumer packaging box, was placed in a another box but not padded in second box? And you sent it back without even opening the consumer box it came in or determining if it was damaged? They sent you a second phone and then you sent both back without determining if either was damaged and got a full refund in a week? And you are pissed at them?

Yup. That's pretty much what happened, except I wouldn't necessarily say I was "pissed," but I was certainly annoyed after two in a row arrived like that. Since when is it acceptable to ship electronics without any packing or throw packages around like the Amazon couriers are notorious for doing? The inner consumer packaging box was beat up too. Corners all banged up. I was not going to open it up and "see" if the phone was damaged since there's no point since the way a device looks says nothing about its internals. Since I was an electronics retailer, I am VERY particular about this sort thing. If packages were to come in damaged, the manufacturers literally instructed us to refuse shipment and return it to them to ensure as much reliability as possible and lower overall warranty incidents. Whenever I ordered smaller electronic items for my store (ie headphones, portable media players, etc.) they ALWAYS had them packed up tight and beautifully. So, when YOU ship packages to people do you properly pack them so the contents don't get destroyed or do you just toss your items loosely in there like Amazon's been doing lately?

The beginning of Ace Ventura perfectly sums up the way Amazon and their own couriers have been handling packages lately:

It's also streaming tv and movies and some music.

Although, the way things are going, Netflix and Amazon are mostly just streaming garbage and they're own original content, much of which is garbage.

Remember when Netflix and Amazon had good and recent movies available to stream? Yeah, me neither.

Never had a problem with Prime shipping. It's really nice to avoid crosstown traffic and some shitty big box store. Target is fucking MILF Central through. Unfortunately, it's also child tantrum central. At least their cheap t shirts are 100% cotton, unlike Walmart.

But hey, with the growth of Amazon branded stuff, maybe we really won't ever have to leave the house anymore.

I just got official E-Mail from amazon saying the annual price goes from 99$ to 119$

I just renewed 2 months ago, so this is way in the future for me.

Maybe I'm a bad American but I like using my Prime.

Yup, got the same one today. the $20 increase is well within the budget, especially with the videos, ebooks, and free shipping we utilize constantly. Fuck it.

And yeah, I'm ok with Bezos getting rich(er) for his grand idea. FKNA, I'm benefiting from the business he built, and the structure of Amazon is what it is. IDGAF if the money is going to him or a Corporate Board. It's not like he's screwing people over or taking a taxpayer handout.

Mine said that the upcoming June renewal will be $99 and next years will be $119.

Today’s delivery of a 1/8” NPT temperature operated switch is already installed in the car. As is yesterday’s 2 day delivery of a 1/8” NPT temperature sender. Another item that I cannot find anywhere else is arriving Monday.
    Free 2 day delivery.
It is getting real hard to want to drive all around town trying to find something close to what I want, only to give up empty handed. Then go home and order it.

Well how to save $20 is silly. And possibly not even economical? Let them hold your $100 for a year to save $20?

Whole different subject on if AZ is a good thing or not. Bad for mom and pop? Probably. What do I buy from mom and pop? Not much. Home Depot, Micro Center, Sierra Trading Post, Target, not mom and pop. Kinda funny because paper books are one of the few things that I would buy from small local, although I try as much as I can.
Keeping too much data-yeah, govt hand out-yeah, bad for environ-probably.

the enviro thing is harder to figure out, it's like plastic vs. paper if you get into it, it's hard to come up with which is better because there's always another layer you can look at if you try to figure it out.

Prime vs. no prime, Prime is probably less enviro-frendly in my opinion because you (or at least, I) don't hesitate to use it and I don't make a list to consolidate things, I just order the shit when it occurs to me so I don't forget. Which is why I like Prie in the first place. Go to hand a picture and find out there's no picture hooks? just order the fuckers right then, then they're coming, they're on their way, and I don't need to try to remember next time I'm near a hardware store.

You ever walk into a hardware store, or stand in front of one, and think, "wtf did I need? there was something I needed from this place." and not be able to remember what it was and then drive home and be like, "fuck! picture hangers!" (or whatever) and then have to start all over again? Prime gets rid of that whole thing. You think of it, you order it, you forget about it but in a couple days it shows up and you hang the picture and it's over with. Saves a shit ton of time or at least it can. Worth the money to me.

I'm new at it, but they bundled a bunch of my stuff on last order, which I'm cool with.
Memory cards, flash drives, sno-seal, aquaseal, few other random things that would not be on the same shelf. And yeah, how many different stores would that be to go buy at a brick and mortar, and how much harder even still to get each one at a mom and pop.

Wheres the thread you (or someone) started on the whole Prime eco thing?

edit and I mean, you could keep a list on excel or notepad of picture hangers etc, growing list and order once every three days or week etc.

I was pitching that SAC bundle order way back in the day. Seemed stupid to ship a beanie one day and gloves two days later. They did it for a while and then bailed I think.

Y'all keep sending all your money to Bezos. I'll keep spending my money at the local stores where I worked as a kid, have known people for twenty years, and support the local economy. Not some billionaire douchebag with far too much sway on our national landscape. When the robot apocalypse comes don't blame me.

Your shit is tired and boring. Just because someone is rich, doesn't mean they're evil. Plenty of people got rich or at least do/did well making a good product/service that provides a good solution for people.

And remember: Amazon is a TECH COMPANY.
