so no, we don't want your money, we good.
Canada used to have an investor immigration program that was essentially a way to buy citizenship. Quebec still does. Not sure about the other provinces.

IMO this is bad advice. They may bring it up because the border patrol is a bunch of clowns. You get one dimwit and you get rejected, and one smart guy and you pass. They don't all know the rules, I've gotten fucked from this. And hell yes, when they do a background check on you, the DUI and other things do come up. My issue was work related though.

The main problem crossing is things that are misdemeanors are felonies in Canada. So talk to a lawyer and figure it out your status before you go. Or go to the border way before you have to cross and ask what you need to do, that is the only 100% way to know without spending money. Then make sure your work has all the paperwork for you to work in Canada, or if they want you use the 'meeting' excuse which they can grill you about if they see some other red flags with you.

Then still plan on getting stopped for no reason, and think of what you are going to say.

There it is. The OP is talking about entering Canada for work. He need to lawyer up and pay the bribe money before accepting the gig.

To the rest of us, before you plunk down the thousands for that awesome Heli trip? If you have any kind of criminal history "Just say No" to Canada.

Those Americans, they are not our friends, believe me. They’re bringing drugs. They’re bringing crime. They’re rapists. And some, I assume, are good people.

...but ya - OP get it sorted before hitting the border.

As far as being a bunch of facists at the the border- so far it doesn't look like its killing tourism.

If actors and musicians can get in with a DUI or Drug conviction then it's possible to get the same approval for work. Thats how I see it.

This is an acceptable way to launder $ in America as well. Big city real estate developers depend on this.

My guess is quite a few counties have something similar. It was surprising to find having never looked into immigration.
