I have to think there's at least some self awareness when they make such an average looking tire (a big one too) and call it ass guy.

    as·se·gai
    ˈasəˌɡī/
    noun
noun: assegai; plural noun: assegais; noun: assagai; plural noun: assagais; noun: assegai wood; plural noun: assegai woods

    1.
a slender, iron-tipped, hardwood spear used chiefly by southern African peoples.
    2.
a South African tree of the dogwood family that yields hard timber.

A badass African weapon, a source of hard wood, and easy juvenile humor. Yeah, this was no accident and there's been a lot of laughing at the Maxxis offices lately and Damien remains too dense to realize that the joke is on him.

I think you might be giving too much credit to the vocabulary of mountain bikers. Maxxis' target customers identify a lot more with this:

I think it's insensitive to the LBGT community and "Me Too" movements.

I don't know how they missed the slow pitch on this marketing slogan: "One ride and you'll be an Assegai too"

But, coming from Zulu warriors of SA where Minaar is from, it is fitting.
"If we can't bring the mountain to the party, let's bring the PARTY to the MOUNTAIN!"
