We got wind fucked yesterday, fence guys are loving it.

Got chased by a wheeled trash can in buddies truck, pretty funny hearing, “oh shit, trash can” and he nails the gas.

It's drier than a popcorn fart in SW CO and the wind has been nuts. Not sure how we've avoided any fires so far, lots of trees blown into power lines and lines down. Keeping our fingers crossed the system coming through this weekend will help some.

Good luck, crazy dry winds are what fucked in California. Hope no other mags lose a house. Good luck.

I agree it is a constitutional right for Americans to be assholes...its just too bad that so many take the opportunity...

We ended that day with nearly 50 homes burnt, and over 100,000 acres in one day. Little lull now with some moisture, but we're coming off the third driest winter in history along the foothills and worst yet in the south. Get that garden hose out Brett.
    I'm so hot right now!

Well that sucks. 100,000 acres already? I didn't realize it was that big.

After this past winter Durango has become one of my favorite places to visit, hopefully it rains soon.

We are on the edge of our seats down here too. Luckily most of our forest is closed to public access right now otherwise we would have something similar happening. Has there been any talk about forest closures in SWC?

It's not that big (around 17,000 acres as of this morning) but this weekend has been tough. Hot, dry and windy. The smoke plume was making its own weather yesterday. There's a chance of rain towards the end of the week, keeping our fingers crossed. This thing has really been rough on the local economy. They had to shut the train down, lots of campgrounds and recreational areas are down as well. Purg was going to try and open for the summer this weekend but they said screw it and now don't plan to open at all and after the shitty winter they are hurting bad. I've heard that Silverton is really screwed, no train traffic and 550 has been shut down on and off for a week. Was down in town on Friday and the smoke was hanging so thick you could taste it.

Stage 2 fire restrictions are in place, no outdoor burning of any kind. No closures yet though but I'm hearing they're considering it although not sure how much good it would do.

Some FR guy allegedly was shooting explosive targets at the gun range. Maybe he thought it has been raining up here like down there. And/or he is just a big freaking idiot.

The first fire we had this season was started by a guy shooting on a private range. No shortage of stupid around, that's for sure.

Here's a shot of the plume from the 416 fire, taken not far from my home about 15 miles away as the crow flies. Still on the west side of Hwy 550, most of the activity to the S/SW/N. No where near as impressive as yesterday but still scary.

416 is at 23k acres with firefighters doing desperate backburns. Burro is at 2.3k with 0% containment and Stage 3 restriction in place now in the San Juan NF. The whole damn forest is closed. Durango is considering closing all the city owned trails and open spaces also. Smoke is at a hazardous level around here in the mornings and business in town is completely tanking. All because the train thought it would be a good idea to run coal powered in stage 2 restrictions.

Now summit county is burning too.

    Send rain please.
