While zoning out driving through Kansas we were startled as a turkey vulture's ass banged into the windshield. I saw it fly up past the left rear. I did not see anything on the road prior and it must have flown up from the side trying to lift some 'heavier than anticipated' road kill and timed it poorly.

At the next gas stopped, I gagged as I went to pop the lid and pour in windshield washer fluid. There were all kinds of rank, stringy meat and guts in the left side of the grill and some inside the engine compartment. Fortunately, there was a car wash near by.
Bobby Jr would never have wasted it. Our Native American predecessors knew to use very part of an animal, even the parts in the engine compartment. You could learn a lot from them.

Officers on Tuesday night stopped a man and a woman driving a stolen car in Southeast Portland, and they found much more than a stolen car, the Portland Police Bureau said.

When officers pulled over Mia Rochelle Baggenstos, 37, and Reginald Lamont Reynolds, 35, near Southeast 162nd and Division, they searched the car and discovered cash, a loaded revolver, scales — and a bag that had “Definitely not a bag full of drugs” printed on it, with drugs inside, the Police Bureau said in a post on X Wednesday.

Portland Police Bureau spokesperson Terri Strauss added in an email to The Oregonian/OregonLive that the drugs were fentanyl and meth; court records say the amount was over 10 grams.

Reynolds faces charges of delivery of methamphetamine, unlawful possession of methamphetamine, unauthorized use of a vehicle and possession of a stolen vehicle. Baggenstos was booked on the same charges, but prosecutors indicated they wouldn’t bring charges against her, court documents show.

Many years ago I was going south on CO 13 about 30 miles south of Craig late at night when an elk decided to step out and promptly slipped on the ice and went down in the middle of the road. I wasn't pointing it off the side at 50mph so I took it head on. That 1976 FJ55 took it like a champ and kept on rolling. It bounced around a bit, probably even got a few inches of air but nothing 5k pounds couldn't handle. A whole bunch of gory stuff stuck to the front and underneath, wasn't a problem until I got to Vegas and it started to thaw... There was still a 6" piece of broken antler stuck in the radiator when I got rid of the truck and it never leaked.

A few years ago I was going downhill pretty quickly on my road bike when a bird flew out of the roadside bushes into my front wheel. Luckily for me (not so much the bird) I had bladed aero spokes which decapitated the bird before it took out my front wheel. I got covered in blood and feathers though…..nasty, though it impressed my riding companions. My wife still calls it dead Bird Hill.

I had an unfortunate bird experience on my motorcycle when I was 21. Nobody died or suffered physical wounds. The young woman that was my passenger might have been a little traumatized.

A bird hit my full face helmet. Fortunately it was full face. I swear by those now.

I don't remember exactly how but I dislodged the now ex-bird from my helmet as it was held there by the wind and it's own sticky bits. Whatever I did wasn't ideal. It went up, over, and down.

I glanced in my mirror and the bike gave a lurch to one side. The bird had caught her square in the chest and she had managed some sort of drop shoulder squirm to dislodge it. I saw a few feathers disappear behind her.

She never said a word about it.

This happened to me on a downhill mountain bike ride. A grouse flew into my front wheel. I stuffed it in my jersey and we ate it.

I guess this annoys me too, but it amuses me that people think that if you ram your garbage into the bush, you’re doing the proper method. I guess?

I have been in this State for 30 years and I am willing to admit that I am part of the problem.

I got one with a Ford Taurus. It was around dusk, I saw that it was a bird on the road, and I assumed it would fly out of the way.

Then, just before impact, I realized it was a grouse that wouldn't get out of the way in time.

Rear view mirror image still sticks in my head; the feather distribution looked like a cartoon.

I turned around and picked it up; it did make for good eating.

Nope, just tossed it on the passenger floor mat.

Someone did tell me I should put a little grouse sticker below the driver's window, though.
