Fucked crank thread
A coworker bought a bike then changed the pedals. Somehow he fucked up the threads on the left crank. He probably tried taking it off the wrong direction then figured it out after leaning on the wrench way too hard. Anyway, he put in the new pedal and rode it a few times then his pedal started feeling weird. Now all he has is a left side crank with no threads. It is on a 2017 Norco SEARCH A TIAGRA. Does anyone have a left crank (Norco site spec says, Shimano Tiagra FC-R4700 50/34T) that'll fit?

I suggested he try that but I don't know if he'll find a left hand metric heli coil of the right size in town. I told him to try the LBS, they might have one.

Yep plenty of home mechanics fucking shit up out there. Any decent LBS should have the tools and heli coil. Pedals aren't metric either, they are 9/16" x 20.
a positive attitude will not solve all of your problems, but it may annoy enough people to make it worth the effort

Fucked crank thread
Cranksets are cheap. I’ll give odds you can find a mag in here that’ll sell you a replacement, shipped for under $100 in less than 24hrs.
Just clarify BB type (BB30, GXP, Shimano) and crank arm length.
Edit: that’s a road bike eh? My opinion remains, just not gonna get a crank from me.

A teammate had a weird crash and broke valve stem on her float x2 last year, and leaked all the air. Fox, in their infinite wisdom, doesn't standardize their valves. Few people had spare float x's at the race but the core wasn't the same. The funniest part? The valve has an imperial sized hex to remove from the shock body.

Also any series Shimano crank arm will work. It just won't exactly match the style, but most of the new series will match color.
The exact part number he needs is Y1RC98030 (172.5) 20 (170) 40 (175)
4600 series will work, a 5800 like this will work

well it sounds like buddy fucked it up completely but i have fixed a pedal for some random unknown person on the trail by threading the pedal in from the back of the arm which chased the threads so I could then thread the pedal in form the front & tighten the pedal down

^^Yep, I've done that too.
This is pricey for most home mechanics but a decent shop should have something similar. https://uniorusa.com/shop-bicycle-to...it-1695mb1-us/Last edited by gravitylover; 04-08-2018 at 11:34 AM.

If he hasn't found one I have a left side (non-drive side) SLX crank he can have for cost of shipping. I had the drive side strip completely out. Still have that too if anyone wants it.
