A boy was decapitated on a waterslide. Now the ride’s ‘visionary’ creator faces a murder charge.

Agreed, but most times the crowds and lines suck, so you gotta go on a day when the weather is not so nice so less people. Action Park in NJ was insanely fun and dangerous-almost all rides controlled by the rider which means plenty of injuries. Amazing that they were allowed to operate, but then again things were different back then. Nowadays they don't build swimming pools deeper than 4' and i haven't found a pool that doesn't forbid diving. No more fun

My teen kids always pick water park over the beach, but then won't go on the bigger slides with me. I get more exercise walking around a water park than I do kicking back at the beech catching an occasional wave. But, given the choice I always pick beach. We try to hit both at least once each summer. A water park season pass has never been something that interests me. I'd rather put that money in to renting a beach house for a couple days.

Water parks, yay or nay?
So many childhood memories of that place. I was a strong swimmer as a kid and vividly remember struggling in that wave pool.
Yes, alpine slides can be dangerous, but are still fun to ride and I now seek them out to ride with my family (Bromley, for example). They are soooo much better than “mountain coasters”.
My wife has stories of the time her dad got banged up on that loop water slide ride. His back got all cut up and bloody.

Traction park was amazing. Every summer that was THE trip I looked forward to the most. I can’t imagine how much fun working there in the 80s must have been. Vivid memories of near drowning in the wave pool also and being so stoked On the whole “cliff diving” area with rapids. Stepping on lit cigarette butts in bare feet was the worst injury that I had besides some water inhalation on the kamikaze water slide. Seems that Jonny Knoxville from jackass is filming a feature film about it Action Park in its hay days.

3rd or 4th circle of hell depending on the location and the relative incontinence of the patrons.
Although-fun fact - the Steve Carrell film, Way Way Back a paean to water parks was filmed, in part, in my childhood summer haunt.

worth a watch for sure
edit: that's what I get for skimming threads, I see Action Park has been discussed already above. But still. I mean, there's a damn documentary:

Denver has waterworld which is one of the best (if not the best) water park in the country.
I try to go at least once or twice a summer but I generally try to go midweek to avoid the hordes of people.
It is an absolute blast. A highlight of summer for me, and a fun tradition

Clearly you like watersports. Does the water park you like have a golden shower?

I grew up with Taylor ham, Action Park and Craigmeur night skiing. FTW!
The ski areas that have indoor water parks seem to do really well with that. It makes sense and as a parent I would totally use one.dirtbag, not a dentist
