Why you should own a Stockli Stormrider

Incredibly quiet, they do want to run. Not overly demanding but you have to stay on top of them…I haven’t been on a newer ski that feels like these.

I finally got out on these beauties the other day. Without a doubt the ugliest, smoothest, most damp ski I’ve been on. I might have to get rid of the MX89s now I’ve skied these. Spot on review by MagnificentUnicorn fits these too!

Stockli has a “edge pro” or something like that for next year. Still lots of metal, like 96mm waist, and like 1500grams at the 179 length.

Also I think that’s the only real change I saw. Still Stormrider 88/95/102, still the same montura models or however that’s spelled. The touring ski looks dope though.

You think they’re different from the 2022/2023? I didn’t see any changes noted in the catalog. Let me look again.

Looks like small changes to the core of the 88, and significant changes to the 95. I noticed the 95 has different lengths for this year. Last year I think the 95 was a 183 or 184?

Would it make sense to detune the flat tails and tips on the Stormrider 105? They ski amazing on groomers, but I’d like to make them a bit less locked in off piste. I’m not sure how much it would impact groomer performance or if it takes away from the “stockli” feel. Has anyone done this and have recommendations on doing this?

FYI Powder7 has some new 2019 SR 105s for sale, price varies by size but generally for $500-$600. I have a pair of 186s for pickup when I pass the Golden area this week. From what I gathered on SkiTalk, that year with the plaid graphic was the last of the heavier burlier builds. I kinda fell in love with some 2019 187 Bonafides I picked up hardly used this year, and pull it out most days even with new snow up to the 6” range. I’m hoping the SR 105 would be like a wider version of the Bonafides. Anyone on here able to comment on that vintage?

I ended up with some 2019 SR 88s off a demo rack last year that I love, and I’m hoping the SR 105s have that same feel.

Pretty stoked to try these out. I may need to swap the brakes to a 95mm width. Took the binders off some fatties.

Think I'm going to get me some of these 105s from 2019. Have a spot in the quiver between the 187 MX98s and 191 Lhasa Fats that this should fill nicely. For the wind affected, some new snow, most mid winter days at Jackson. Want something that can slip turns in steeps and variable snow but be stable enough to race the tram. Am I on the right track? Looks like a lot of tip rocker, these 186s long enough?

Edit: lots of folks use the BMX 105 for this but more recently the ZX 108, Peak 104 or 110, Blank. But there Stockli is calling me

^^^There’s not a lot of tip rise in them - contact point is over the k in the logo.

I’ve love mine on everything from soft groomers to 6” plus of med-density maritime pow. Like a Ferrari mated with a Kenworth - fast, solid and damp. They hammer thru crud and are a gas to rail groomers. Just stay in the front seat…

You’ll love them. They’re baller but still pretty dang maneuverable if you stay forward with a good athletic stance. I’ve got about 8-10 days on them. And, I’ve found them pretty good on melt freeze hardpack as well as good in powder, so far up to 9”. The 186 doesn’t feel short with that mount point where it is. I’ve put my 194 Black Crows Animas next to them, when lining up the mount point, it’s pretty much the same length tips, just the tails end where the Animas start to rocker up. So it’s about the same effective ski length at those 194s. I’ve yet to find a top speed on them, and I doubt I ever will. They were pretty awesome blasting through some sun thickened chop at the end of a powder day yesterday. I really shouldn’t speak so highly of them so I can horde them.
