I saw a Cayenne the other day with the Rothman's sticker on the hood. Looked ridiculous tooling around the Costco parking lot.

I posted it somewhere upthread, but I came across these guys last winter coming back from the North GA mountains. British Columbia plates, covered in dirt and mud and howling along; thing looked fantastic. Did some googling and it’s a cool story of the build and their adventures.

My guess is these P-car enthusiasts were spending some time up at one of the most preeminent flat-6 engineers and Porsche race car builder, Jake Raby, whose shop is inconspicuously tucked in the mountains among some of the absolute best driving roads in the country.

Fast forward to now on this car that he couldn't bother to get checked out, couldn't wait for me to come look it over...needs a new transmission. He took it to the dealer (also against my advice, because he couldn't wait a week to see a local ma and pop shop) and they quoted him 10k for a replacement plus some other fixes.

Some lessons are hard to learn and unfortunately he only seems to learn from pain.

Ouch. When I was that age, I'd try to find a used one at the junkyard and replace it in my parent's driveway. Guessing you wouldn't want that either.

The dollar store Rothmans livery is cringe, but all else about the Dakar is everything I would have hoped for in a factory safari. My pitch to the wife to sell our house to live in the roof-top tent on top of the Dakar was not received well.

For the buck, sure, but if you’re spending 6 figures on something like that I assume you’re irrational. I just think it would be a cool car to have.
