Bobby's used car lot and Free Carfax

Have a line on a 2001 Audi TT Convertible, top of the line spec for the year (1.8t rated 225 HP off the floor) for trade in value of $2400. Just had my mechanic check it out and most of the issues are cosmetic / minor. It isn’t exactly minty inside or out, but it’s functional enough and the major bits seem solid. Only rust found was ‘minor on the shock mounts.’ 108k on the odo, clutch feels great. Full set of winter tires and wheels, car cover, both OEM mats included etc. Feels like a way to keep miles off my main ride which is a pretty cool car in and of itself that I don’t care to own much past 100k on the odometer, and I’d love to not have a car payment in a few years. I am not a Bobby/dentite-type earner and I’m only 33 so I should be $aving, but this entices me. Even with a major issue that has me trading this in on a bed, how much do I possibly have to lose besides being stranded somewhere? WWMD?

I can think of much worse ways to throw away $2400.

try to confirm water pump / timing belt maintenance was performed and when.
early models had a recall on the suspension due to rust. perhaps it can be fixed on Audi's dime?

Major services all done, and a lot of extra stuff too that comes with maintenance on those cars (control arms, wheel bearings, something with the AC, new top upholstery)

I’ve seen some buds beat on that gen 1.8 motors in A4s (heavier) and was surprised by them.
This thing may cost a few more Gs over the next few years but the grins will offset. And like you said offset your primary ride’s miles. Makes sen$e to me

Thanks guys. Yung Jupiter had a 2000 stage 3 A4 that really hauled for what it was. Of course it didn’t last long. The 2001 engine does not have the cylinder pressure issue that caused a recall for the 2000 engine.

Its basically a GT3 Touring with the Boxster Spyder top..... For 130k more... (160k more Heritage)

That car has black calipers on ceramics.... Ive never seen that. Maybe thats a Heritage Ed thing.
