We were dining al fresco on the sidewalk a few weeks ago in my town and a husband and wife, probably in late 50's, parallel park in the street in front of our table in an '81 in black with gold. The wife gets out and I say "hey, cool car." She looks at me like I'm crazy, and says "please make him an offer."

    Cracked me up.

IS F with a few miles is possible but it's Japanese so probably more reliable than you want.

I got love for the AMG Wagon, Volvo's and S-Lines, and visually they'll age nicely, but not sure if they qualify as "long term cars" or "reasonably reliable."

Best of the "boring" Asian options would be TLX Type-S, IS350F AWD or Genesis G70 3.3T AWD

I salivate over pictures of MB wagons and M5s but the long view wins out every time. I'd feel comfortable owning a 991.2+ GT3, though.

Hyundai also made a Genesis R-spec with 5.0L V8 for a little while.

I've secretly had plans to rock a mustache when I hit 60. Once my wife sees the complete package, our marriage will undoubtedly get the boost its so desperately needed.

So Huck, we've answered your question w/ the early 80's 'Bird? I think it's a sensible choice as their values seem to be increasing, fairly reliable, etc.

Tell me it requires leaded gas and it's a done deal.

That’s me, says the guy with a SQ5.

The SQ5 is one of the best cars on the road. Same with the Porsche Macan.

Purists and wagon nerds hate them but honestly they are perfect sized and with the right suspension package are a blast to drive. Plus they can tow, fits baby seats, and have better engines than the "cars" in the brand lines.

Really? I've had an SQ5 for 8 years now, and it's fine, but meh. I had super-high expectations, because I love that engine in the S5, but I think the transmission ruins it.

Serious objection on "fun to drive". We tried a SQ5 and while it's better than most SUVs, it's a relative snoozefest.
I still love my wife's sleeper sled - 535d xdrive. AWD and 6-700 miles a tank with a wall of torque and sharp handling.

Put the coilovers on it and go Stage 2

    I like the ZF8 so....
