    That is awesome.

If only they could bring that tech to a sub $100k affordable car.

    Looks like a maintenance disaster.

A plain ol' ZF 8sp with paddle shifters can snap through the gears as fast as anyone needs to.

Same here and with most CO resort communities. I know quite a few buddies who haven't owned cars, while living here for a decade or more. Free bus to everywhere they need to go, including the airport to rent a car if needed.

First off, a person buying a Koenigsegg doesn't care about maintenance. Second of all, in case you didn't know, it ain't always about how fast you can crack off shifts. Yes, a Porsche 911 with a tiptronic AT is faster by pretty much every metric. Yet the manual demand is still pretty big for them. SO much so, they brought back the MT after thinking they were done with them.

I've driven both in the past. Shifting a manual transmission 911 can be a sublime experience. SUCH a great shifter. Driving the automatic ones around town, and I felt I might as well have been in a freaking Cayenne. Even when using the buttons on the steering wheel to "manually" shift. Borrrrring.

2001 called Montucky, they want their Tiptronic back. Its all dual-clutch Porsche Doppelkupplung, or PDK, these days, and it's faster than you can blink.

That said, I'm in the manual every time.

And the latest Porsche manual rev matches downshifts for you automatically. I'm sure the manual purists are lamenting that heel-toe-ing has gone the way of the dodo. "Oh it used to take skill and now anybody can make a clean downshift.... "

While my heel-toe is not the sharpest, one of the purest joys in life is the sound and sensation of giving that flat-6 some juice before dropping down a gear.

Yeah yeah. Paddle shifters always match perfect.

    But it ain’t the same.

An automatic motorcycle is just a moped with more HP

Ha. It's not an automatic trans on the bike. It's a quickshifter--you can upshift and downshift with the shifter only, no clutch pull needed. Or if you want, you can pull the clutch and shift. Quickshifter shifts are lightning fast. You still have to match revs on downshifts or you can end up in a cornfield.

Some of you old guys need to embrace modern. Chill out and try it for a while before passing judgement.

If I found myself in the market for a Turbo or one of the GT cars I’d opt for the PDK just because I would want the absolute best out of those super cars. Shit, even if I was in the market for a Porsche as a daily driver I’d opt for the PDK given all the hills and traffic around here that make a manual so much less fun.

Bobby's used car lot and Free Carfax

Buddy has a new Vette and I don’t think I’d want to regularly drive it around with a manual. DCT feels right in a car like that, imho.

Pulled the carb off for a rebuild and tune on this example. Will enjoy rowing this boat when time comes.
