I think the California black plates should only be issued to pre 1970 cars and this is why.

One of the greatest classic cars in my eyes. Saw these on Isla Mujeres in Mexico. Seemed like kick ass way to get around on a small island in the Yucatán peninsula.

I miss the era of big Vans. I pass the Mark III place and always get a little misty eyed.

Someone school me on the best way to by a Toyota Sienna. Want White, LE AWD, with the lane departure and blind spot bells and whistles. 2018 to new would be fine. Tried Costco, but they don't have any dealers in area. Credit union found some, but all FWD. Located in San Diego.

Why? Both Pacifica and Odyssey are better. Sienna is a decade old at this point.

Considering a Honda, but would never buy a chrysler. Sienna is the only one with AWD.

Eh, what are you really going to use the awd for? I run my Ody with snows in NH (plenty of ice/hills) and it does fine as it's so heavy. AWD reduces the area available for cargo, so there's way less space available for things like the stow and go seating or the spare under the floor.
I cross shopped the Sienna when I bought mine and it was softer and less refined than the Ody. And that was before the new generation.

GTK about less storage with AWD. I'm not really excited about any of the options or dealing with car salesman. Wife is leaning more toward minivan and I was thinking midsize suv. But I did rent a Sienna for a week long mountain bike trip last year and thought it was nice. I'm guessing toyota will update and maybe hybrid the Sienna 2021, but not sure we can wait that long. She does want to test drive the pacifica hybrid, her friend has one. I told I would rather spend 60k on a volvo plugin hybrid than 40k chrysler and she told me I don't need 400 hp :-) Although I am seeing some used pacifica hybrid for 30k and it is a "LEMON LAW BUYBACK/BRANDED TITLE"

Hey, the Sienna is fucking dope as an AWD travel rig. Your bike can go inside with the wheel off. It goes up mountain canyons under chain control conditions. You already have the Taco for trips when you need to do some real-deal 4 wheeling to get to the camp site or trail head. You are definitely thinking about this the right way.

You need to consider older models than 2018, and you need to consider the XLE or limited. I assume you are considering kid-hauling capability? They ruin cloth seats so fucking fast. You want the leather that you can wipe clean. If this is a grown-up-oriented adventure-wagon then the cloth is fine and so is the LE. If your child or potential child is so young that you don't know this yet, and you are waffling on the van, let me set you straight: you want the van. Even if you don't have any kids and just have a bunch of sweet skis and mountain bikes: you still want the van.

As was mentioned upthread, the Sienna hasn't had a serious refresh since 2010/2011. And that drivetrain dates back to 2008, which was partway through the production run of the 2nd-gen. The V6 with the timing chain requires very little maintenance and can easily go 300k+ miles. So why pay for a recent one when you can shop for a good older model? The car isn't any different in meaningful ways.

One thing to check: the power sliding doors are a known point of failure and are a bitch to fix when they break. The current generation tends to be better on this, but check that shit out and read up on it before you buy.

    Good luck.

I put an awd decal on my sienna and run snows (in CA) in winter and AT tires in summer. Cal trans and CHP never bat an eye. My power door stopped working last year (2006 model year). I removed the cable. It is a manual operation now. My door check in the driver side also broke, which is another know issue. There were recalls for both of those problems that were never addressed in time (by previous owner).
