How about them ski lift appliances? Its a hundred ton piece of machinery that earns zero empathy from the populace. Its an appliance that can kill people in this idealistic scenario, and if people are getting killed by appliances, those appliances wont sell.

Being a boomer i'm always skeptical about too much technology but having Subaru's Eyesight has made me a believer. It's not perfect but it works well. Have I gotten distracted, somewhat. Lane assist helps me reach for some things I wouldn't have done before. I have to stop that.
This incident should be the wake call to slow the progression until it's perfected if possible.
Fully autonomous vehicles requires a level of perfection that has to be almost 100%
Even at 95% it isn't good enough IMO.
Never did I think I might live to see a road version of the Jestsons become a reality. For now not my cup of tea only time will tell but for now it's too soon.
Robots should enhance our lives not take over our functions as we just sit back. I know it won't start like that but eventually it will become that. People are going to be making coffee and toast while reading the newspaper. Mini camper to work you shall go.
My other concern is will cars and trucks be limited to posted speed limits with no choice? That would suck
Btw SJG that was funny

Or, and it's obvious at this point, the ability to meet manufacturing goals. All the large auto companies are well practiced at that, and all are investing heavily in electric and autonomous R&D. It's really only a matter of time before he fails. If failure is slinking away with 20 billion in your pocket.

Regardless of Tesla's ultimate success or failure there's an argument to be made that the company greatly accelerated the adoption of electric vehicles. If that ends up as a technological win, a net positive, then Tesla deserves some credit for the industry wide investment in electric and autonomous R&D.

Accellerating the electric car is what Tesla wants anyway, they're giving their technology out to other manufacturers to create competition, which means more charging facilities built faster.
