BG's, why all the love?

Lazy jong question cause I don't want to go thru the whole ON3P thread, but why does everyone love this ski so much? Seem's like it's changed up every year and every version is held in high regard. Used one's last less than 5 min. on gear swap, literally. Kinda hard to find a place to demo, but a ski I'm interested in. ON3P along with Moment and Praxis seem to make up the axis of evil when it come to companies that make a bomber product and stand behind it.

because you can charge on variable on it, and once you’re moving, it’s super easy to pivot in both variable and soft snow.

BGs are phenomenal resort powder chargers. They handle the deep, chopped up bumps and leftovers, and that heavy untracked snow better than practically any other ski. For most who try it, RES is very predictable. The newer versions are getting better and better on hardpack.

I think what draws most people, is the ease of pivot and ability to change direction so rapidly, for such a damp and stable ski. And the directional surfiness. That’s what keeps me on them.

They are super durable too, which makes it even sweeter.

Because they are one of the best all day resort pow skis on the market.

Pretty good in deep pow.
Awesome in chop.
Awesome in windbuff.
Awesome in upside-down or windfunk.

RES allows very fun drifting in to turns, excellent in tight trees.

Pivoty loose when you want. Chargey damp haul ass when need it.
Doesn't beat you up when it starts getting tracked out bad.

Plus tgr bro cred and stuff.

Skiing pow on BGs is possibly just as good as having sex, but it definitely lasts longer. I got my first pair last season and was blown away - blasts through resort chop with ease, but feels pretty nimble.

Sorry - I can add more specifics.

They ski pow as well as a full R/R ski.

They can straightline gnarly variable snow and never have you feeling unstable.

They can straightline cut up chop into the afternoon on a pow day without you ever needed to swap for something skinnier.

They can make any shape turn you want.

Despite how much they like speed, they can pivot in tight trees on a dime.

They are the best platform for stomping airs I’ve ever used.

Possible complaints:

They are as mediocre in firm snow as most 116mm skis.

They are a directional ski. Their switch game is also mediocre.

They are a handful on steep icy bumps.

I do not think they are the best in lighter density untracked powder. Something lighter weight, like an Armada JJ or something, floats better in fluff.

I do not agree. They feel like a R/R in the way they destroy cut up and choppy snow, but in terms of overall float in untracked snow, I think other skis have the edge.

To be honest, I get some diving issues on some RES skis in lighter weight powder, if I am not skiing 30mph or faster. Some arent as floaty as I’d like. 2015 or 2017 BGs.. I found my supergoats to have better float in untracked, and even with the stiffer flex, they plane over the snow better. Even at slower speeds, which is weird for how beefy they are. I also found the Steeple 112 to float better in less dense untracked than the standard BGs. C&Ds have some serious float, but also demand speed before they work their magic.

Overall, I keep buying RES skis because they are best for cut up, choppy resort powder charging. They still work well in drier stuff, but are not “the best” for light fluffy untracked. At least in my opinion. But how often am I really skiing perfect untracked..

BGs are the best resort powder skis.

And in any dense, maritime snow, they are by far the best and most maneuverable yet stable skis for 3D mank.

Agree with your other statements but not at all with this one.
I own the 191 and the 188 ProTest. The ProTest absolutely dominates the 191 in pow. Way faster through the turn and exiting the turn. Looser as well. The 191 wants to plow in powder where as the ProTest just move through it with speed and ease. I've lugged both to the hill in a pow day and did back to back runs and the results are as stated above. The ProTest is also a great landing platform for airs.
The SG skis pow better than the 191.
