    Best mildly irresponsible scotch buy?

Got a good bonus, looking for a good bottle 250 or less. Prefer islays.

All I can tell you is I've been intrigued with the bourbon thread so Friday I bought a nice bottle to just sip.

That did not work out well.

Ha! I've found Bourbons have too much residual sugars. Scotch does not last in our house either. 9 years? I like Bru but get outta here. Front-runners right now are balvenie portwood 21, glenmorangie signet and highland Park 18.

Tamdhu batch strength (no. 1) will fall well below your threshold but it's real yummy.

Also really enjoyed the 16y Laphroaig. Heck, you could get both and still have enough cheddar to buy yourself a sixer of the hazy ipa that all the kids are into.

on topic - what's the collective view on booze auctions? compared to shops looks to be some bargains, depending on honesty of whats for sale. Which also applies to shops.

Bruichladdich Black Art is $300 but why? Instead, get 3 bottles of top shelf Islays, e.g. Ardbeg Corryvreckan, Bunnhahabhain 18 y.o., Lagavulin 16 y.o.

I had a couple fingers of the Black Art. It was excellent, although I more enjoyed the Corryvreckan

Go to klwines.com. They have a bunch of different one off whiskys, single malt, grain and blend. Some really old stuff and pretty good prices

All 3 are quite non-Islay for a guy who claims to prefer Islays

Maybe not irresponsible enough for you, but I have been infatuated with the G&M Linkwood 15 bottling: https://www.gordonandmacphail.com/ou...-years-old-43/ Goes for around $80 here. Nicely balanced sherry aged Speyside that keeps going.

But, if I had $250 to spend on 1 bottle and only 1 bottle:https://www.masterofmalt.com/whiskie...k-21-year-old/

edit: looks like the Springbank one has moved up a price bracket or 2 since I last looked, but hey- you wanted to be irresponsible.

True, but I'm mostly limited to http://www.liquorandwineoutlets.com/ and a bunch of the older islays are getting into overpriced territory. Also buying for a friends weekend and not all have the same taste.
