I keep my snowboarding as close to skiing as possible. duck stance 24" wide ? you can't carve yer 151 noodle board like that. so go jump jib slide a picnic table or a hand rail , that shit is ghey.

In that you talk shit about it outside but look at it at home? How old are you???
It’s ok, I’m use to clueless skiers biting snowboarding culture for way too long. In few years, you can ski on swallow tail skis or fish shape skis.

I tried snowboarding...
I thought about snowboarding once.
Then I sprouted my first pube and decided to man up and grab some poles.

The ratio of posts v. posts calling something gay/ghey in this thread is truly sad. We ready to move on past the homophobic shit yet?

I snowboarded for a few years. Small mountain got boring on skis. Got pretty good at it, and even worked in the "industry" for a while with a small player. My only advise to a beginner that has good skiing ability- get the hell off the green slopes. Learn on blues. A little speed is your friend.
Scariest moment on snow was on a carving board with hard boots. I got just comfortable enough to really rail some turns, carving some nice grooves in the hardpack. It was right at that moment that I hooked up and went flying backwards into the woods. Luckily, there was enough loose snow that it packed up and prevented me from breaking my back on a tree. Never tried hard boots again.

Good for you on giving something new to you a try. I use to s.b. a for awhile but never stopped skiing at the same time.
What made me hang her up completely are a few things if not a few more. It lacks overall progression once you've nailed it, you're done.
Traversing and getting stuck. This comes intro play a bunch more once you've nailed the technique and are off-piste. This reason alone kept my buddy from accessing some great terrain that I wanted to show him at Targhee this weekend. He's like "I don't want to dig and walk". Which would be another reason I stopped.
Then the injury factor is and can be a bit much on the s.b's. in the more extreme terrain when compared to the same terrain on my skis. Many others have attested to this and also agree.
Now think back to my other points and they'll all be on you at once basically.
Sure I surf too and being in powder on a board brings me close to that ocean feeling but I still prefer skiing powder over the s.b.
Skiing just allows one to do so much more. These are the reasons that board has been in the attic for 10 plus years now.
I'm not discouraging you but damn it get back to skiing! 🤘😈😁
Stomping it!

I haven't ridden soft boots since living in tahoe and summit county years ago. I just like the feel of hard boots on east coast hard pack. unless the snow is soft, softies feel like wearing basketball hi tops versus a nice stiff hockey skate.
When we were seriously learning to snowboard, you had to pass a proficiency test at stratton. I was good for a few hours of schlepping around on that clunky gear and was back on my K2 TNC 207s before noon. Going fast and arcing big GS turns is what's up. Took me years to get determined to get good at snowboarding.
First time I saw a snowboard in race mode was at Stowe.Looked like waterskiing through a buoy course. I wanna do THAT ! Spent 20 years away from skis, even though half my friends won't snowboard but I can go just as fast down Gondilier or Liftline or NoseDive. When super sidecut skis showed up , parabolics, whatever I wanted to demo some but they're too friggin ' short. oh, the sidecut makes up for the length. No, I don't do short snowboards except for trees and I'm not going from 200cm slalom skis to 180s, no way. I finally broke down and scored some Solly CR Johnsons off steep n cheap, found some Tecnica TNTs and gave it a shot. Poles feel kinda weird now. Still not crazy about the shorter length. I gotta get some phatty spatulas to demo in deep snow. It's cool how you never forget the technique. Comes right back. Point is, do both. different tools for different conditions. I've got a few friends that grew up on skis, like me, got into boarding in their 20's but still rip on 2 planks. Mad River Glen, good example. Used to be No snowboarding in California at Heavenly. Isn't Alta still ski only ?
whatever ya got on your feet doesn't matter as long as it feels like you're ripping, even if you suckBacon tastes good. Pork chops taste goood.

I snowboard sometimes and even enjoy it occasionally. It is a lot of fun on a powder day, and it’s good to switch things up. However, there are some things about snowboarding that absolutely suck.
1- The constant strapping in and unstrapping. Every single run, not convenient on a powder day.
2- the lack of ability to skate / pole to gain speed in flat areas. This is a major pain in the ass and often leads to unstrapping.
3- the serious blind spot that snowboarding creates behind your back shoulder. This freaks me out and feels downright dangerous sometimes.
4- Traversing sucks!
5- A snowboard is more dangerous than skis if you are ever trapped in an avalanche / extremely deep and heavy snow... the ability to click out of ski bindings may possibly save your life.

a little tech, hope it helps.
not a fan of sitting and racheting into a binding. The hard boot steps ins are great until they get jammed with snow, which is rare.
that blind spot. I'm always looking back up the hill to see who's coming. esp if I'm cranking tunes and deaf.
on an alpine board you're pointed more forward so traversing is kinda like kicking on a skateboard. Handy to have a ski buddy toss you a pole to use like an oar or even yank ya as they're skating on flats.
years ago, before hip surgery, I couldn't tie my left shoe due to my bad hip but I could still snowboard fairly well. I'd have a buddy be a binding caddy and help me clip in and out, which gets old quick. plus, this was before step in hard plate bindings. Plus, I'm regular, so I could get my back foot out okay. Gondi rides or anytime the front foot had to come out, was a pain.
I've always been able to get myself free of my board even in weird crashes in deep snow in the woods. Haven't crashed into a tree well yet, hanging upside down, that would suck.
tedious video but you get the idea
have you seen Ryan Knapton's video ??Bacon tastes good. Pork chops taste goood.

1-if you know what you're doing and have any balance, you have one foot completely locked in off the lift, skate out to where you start down, put your other foot in, never sit the fuck down, strap it in and half the time can do that on the fly.
2-anticipate
3-agreed. that's why you have to continually look back to see who's gaining speed or coming out of the trees on to the trail. head on a swivel. always.
4-toeside always or skins, gear and poles for deep days if you want the goods in the distance.
5-break out the splitboard on days planned with lots of traverses so your only complaint could be the transition. the bindings have a release mechanism which i can do faster than you can click out of your ski bindings
respectfully disagree. true story. skied a half dozen times in my youth up into college. skiing was cool and all but never evoked what snowboarding does. not even close. a trip to vermont and some mushrooms changed everything. skied a few runs, then to the bar, a couple jack and cokes and some caps and decided to rent a board. best. decision. ever. skateboarded a lot as a kid so that definitely helped out of the gate. bought a custom that week and the rest is history. had some great advice from a ripper skier, "if you're not crashing, you're not pushing it". the 8 yr old skier takes that to heart.
tour a lot and being in ski mode and occasionally skiing has given me a lot of appreciation for skiers over the years. really enjoy watching a smooth skier ripping around. we have a couple passes at alta and after solitude closes, the 11 yr old and i are going to have "opposite day", rent some skis and crush albion & sunnyside laps : )
for me, there is nothing like riding a board especially touring. would ride it every single day if i could. different strokes for different folks...

Step in binding... Fixes nearly everything.
I ride a 15 year old pair of K2 clicker bindings. They are a step in, with a hi-back, not unlike the new Burtons. K2 actually licensed the Shimano SPD cleat from mountain biking and adapted it to the snowboard binding. They rarely get clogged with snow since I found a perfect stomp pad that can scrap the bottom of my boot and a light smear of WD-40 on the metal bits.
I never sit down or stop moving off the lift. just step in and fly away. They are super easy to pop out a back foot to skate on the flats, and step right back in, never stopping never sitting down....
Traversing does suck. a lot. How much does it suck, more than any skier who has never snowboarded could ever imagine...

hmmm...I talk to a lot of people on the lifts, more and more say they are going back to skiing, boarding got boring. My son, who's 25, won't even try it anymore, (he's the reason I learned to ride) . Boarding is way too restrictive for where we like to go.
Whatever floats your boat. Slide on what you like

With regards to to the traversing and extra pain in the ass of snowboarding (and of splitboarding too for that matter), yeah, it is no doubt a huge pain in the ass compared to skiing, but you either like snowboarding enough to endure/not mind it or you don't, and therefore quit. Don't get me wrong, skiing is fun! I took up XC this winter and I love it... but I will always prefer to be a knuckle-dragging kook and ride a snowboard.
