The AT is a National Park. The Rangers that patrol the trail are NPS and currently aren't working.

18 NE - Go on, ride when it's wet

The NPS may “oversee” the national scenic trail but I’ve never seen or heard of a national park service ranger patrolling the section of the AT/LT (which runs right through my town).

Not even the USFS rangers actually patrol the trail. It’s mostly local clubs and the Appalachian Trail Conservancy that do the heavy lifting to keep the trail passable.

Edit - in other news the touring center skied really well yesterday.

After all this rain then plunging temps, I may be riding my non-fat bike on frozen dirt by Monday.

Maybe it's different in other areas. A couple of times we've seen NPS Rangers on the trail down hhere.

Gonna be a while until I get back out on a bike. My heart seems to have a different plan than my head

I'll get the new 2019thread started soon. It usually takes me a few days after 1/1 to figure out a title and opening post. Gimme a few days, I have other things going on right now

After 2018’s title and subsequent weather, how about a reference to brown pow or perfect loam this time around.

No bp reference as that sounds stupid.

I'd like rainbows, unicorns, sparkles, and confetti explosions worked into the title somehow...

I was gonna go with "i'm whet, you're wet, its wet, let's ride!"

Honestly I felt like it was a fairly dry summer until the end, most of my racing was borderline ideal, maybe even dusty!! I'd be way more into a year with some storms spread out over the whole year though!!

Yeah we had a couple of sorta dry weeks there were even a couple of dusty rides in there. Unfortunately I hit nearly 70" of precipitation for the year and things are so soggy it's going to take a couple months for it to dry out so next dry ride, May June something like that.

Cool podcast episode from the folks at NHPR about us mountain bikers going rogue and building trails wherever.

I'm sure everyone will listen to both sides of the argument presented.

That podcast is overly dramatic, like Niagara Falls level.
I am one of the top old school rouge builders in the MRV. Stopped in 03 and filled in 6 years of projects I was working on, due to assholes giving me a hard time.
There would be no Mad Rivers Riders today if I had never built the trails I built by myself.
Still have D-Bags who have pulled a paycheck from my area giving me a hard time because I don't do anymore trail work. I also get accused of trail sabotage and other bullshit by the local club, who can "go fuck themselves".

Always felt a widespread community of builders was the best. Connecting and sharing their work, creating friendship. Now it's an internet connection and a feeling of entitlement that rule the access.
