There was an ad in the Aspen Times last week.
A guy with a sail boat looking for two crew members for a ski/sail trip from PNW to Kamchatka.

PNW to Kamchatka may be a little more time off than I can swing with 2 young kids.

Might be a good opportunity for them to learn their knots.

Or Russian knots.

Bump .... just did the Antartica Pensinsula trip with Ice Axe Expeditions for my 40th and I would highly recommend it. It was truly epic and so unreal. The place is incredibly spectacular and everyone from the ship crew, guides to guests were all such great people. We had great weather and accessing different skiing objectives everyday by zodiac and seeing marine life along the way like my fav penguins ... so cool and amazing!

Has anyone tried to do one of these trips via bareboat charter compared to a pre-arraigned trip?
Im looking at putting together a trip with some friends and we (all I) have the relevant sailing experience that bareboat chartering a sailboat for the trip isnt intimidating, but the lack of local knowledge, where to ski, etc, is what Im curious about.

If you are looking to combine ski touring with sailing, there is nothing that comes close to Norway. The areas you want to focus on is Sunnmøre and Lofoten. These videos should convince you:

A number of the chartered (crewed) boats don't come with a guide, and you need to hire a guide/guides separately. Seems like you could do that if you could find a bareboat to charter, but I expect that given weather, terrain, and tourism differences between, say, northern norway and the caribbean, I expect it's a lot harder finding a boareboat to rent in northern norway.

that is some good stuff. Norway is a far better destination than AK for a boat trip. No rain forest.
I was surprised how warm the temperatures are. Is Varsom. No the best place to follow the snowpack? I guess this site is a good place to start planning https://visit-lyngenfjord.com/en/ski...touring-lyngen. Are there any other sources you would recommend?off your knees Louie

Yes, varsom is the site for getting the avalanche forecast. You can also often get an idea about the conditions in general on the site. I haven't been to lyngen, so I can't really tell, but I have only heard good things about it. Lofoten is also awesome though, and not that far away from Lyngen. The Norrøna video you saw above, was all from Lofoten. Just being there is mind-blowing.
There really aren't that many sites to do research on, apart from the commercial ones who want to sell you guiding and lodging etc. Norwegians are generally very knowledgeable about outdoor activities and used to navigate them self in the mountains, on the sea, in the forest etc. But that ability to be self-sufficient, means there are a host of good guidebooks for skiing, just like it is for climbing. Most of that will be in Norwegian though, but I found this in English, which covers the Sunnmøre region, which is what I consider the best in Norway.

For guiding companies, these are legit ones I recommend:
http://www.nordnorskklatreskole.no/winter.html
http://www.fjellsentralen.no/english
http://breogfjell.no/en/
http://www.norgesguidene.no/
http://www.fjellguide.no/
These will all set you up with a UIAGM mountain guide. I don't recommend using any companies who use non-UIAGM guides, and I also wouldn't recommend using foreign guide companies and non-local guides. As always, local knowledge is $$.

Thank's I was hoping you would respond. I have some research to do. Good luck in Haines. Appears they finally got some snow although storm may have left upside down.

If you wanted to do something in AK I could probably work out a badass prince William sound tour.
