    Coaches..

My Facebook feed is full of posts about diet coaches, money coaches, wellness coaches...and people I know hiring them.

I thought those were dietitians, financial planners, doctors...

    Coaches were for sports?

I mean, a diet coach does a few months of online training and charges just as much as a dietitian.... but a dietitian has at least a bachelors degree plus supervised training and testing... same with financial planners, doctors, therapists.. they all have a lot of schooling.

Life coach or therapist... wellness coach or doctor..

Is this ok? I guess if they can get people to pay them, more power to them?

No, it's not OK, just more dilution of services from true professionals.

Yeah, the whole life coach thing is a way for people to make themselves feel better about themselves without having to go to a shrink. I guess it makes those that are unmotivated to be able to handle real life feel better about themselves and their lifestyle choices.

They have those "coaches" at the institution I work at for our wellness benefits and we get points to go visit them to help us with our diets, quit smoking, be able to handle everyday stress, etc..., but I don't go, I do all the other shit to get my points without having to go to someone for "self help"

Yeah our wellness program wanted us to do wellness coaching over the phone. I just didn't answer.

Seriously? It's already invasive enough to get my blood drawn for my wellness checks (which in a way I do appreciate), but wellness coaching over the phone, come on, do these people (coaches) seriously consider this a worthy job?

I was talking to a ski coach the other day; former racer but didn't make it very far. He told me:

"Those who can, do. Those who can't, teach. Those who can't teach, coach."

    Much of this MLM bullshit.

Beachbody coaches, wellness coaches slinging essential oils, makeup coaches slinging Mary Kay, the list goes on and on

Yeah those oils that will change your life. Someone at my work sells essential oils and all the wonen flock to it.

I'm almost envious of the gullibility... if only I believed a little bottle of smelly shit could change my life.

Maybe they should start slinging cannabis oil extracts as a path to wellness.

Lol. That's hilarious. I wonder what genius came up with that one? A "life coach" is one thing, but don't think it would work too well over the phone.

As much as we all usually make fun of life coaches and stuff, what makes at least some of them valuable is how the good ones take a vested interested in your life and are there to help get you over hurdles and through challenges. I've some of them work wonders in people's lives and they end up being a valued friend, even if it started out as a business transaction. Over the phone wellness coaches, though? Lol wut?!

A valued friend that you have to pay for? That's really sad.

Perhaps. But sometimes they're the only "friends" that some people can turn to for meaningful change. Especially when a person is surrounded by people who only seem to drag them down. Again, we can kind of mock the "profession" in general, but there are certainly some out there who have been very helpful to some.

They have quite few self help type coaching programs run by multi level marketing AKA pyramid scam companies right now. It's almost always embraced by people who can afford it least.
