if you think you are "cool" by hating on Shaun White, thats a bummer. Congratulations to him, and the rest of the team.

Obviously not blaming her for the abuse dude. Jeez.
It’s really gotten to the point you can’t even ask a fuck8ng question..
Maybe I didn’t read close enough, but I didn’t see what was keeping her around. She didn’t seem into it in the first place. Was she making a shit ton of money?
By the way, I question everything.

The music business is tough. It's gotta be difficult to walk away from a steady paycheck. Plus there is probably the fear that White would slag her to her next potential employer. Even though he is a known douche, he's rich and famous, so he probably has some pull to fuck up her career. And it's not like they were winning a bunch of Grammys.
It's easy to look at it from the outside and wonder why she didn't walk away sooner. But if you try to put yourself in her shoes, it's easy to see how she could feel trapped.

I suspect there's logic behind the madness, but I'm too dumb to see it.

Even if you’re just “questioning everything,” victim blaming is a pretty shitty conclusion to jump to.
I don’t respect him as an athlete because he’s a piece of shit human. Athletic ability isn’t a get out of jail free card.

Because, you know, everything alleged in a lawsuit is always completely true. Which is why we don't need a legal system to adjudicate.
I know more than one person who has had their lives ruined by false allegations of sexual abuse. The allegations were extremely detailed, and would have easily made a narrative at least as plausible as this one if anyone involved were famous. They were also completely fabricated.
Since most of you have been fortunate and have never been sued, here's an important fact: Lawyers are expensive. Even if you have the money to defend a lawsuit, and you know the charges are mostly or completely false, it's often cheaper to settle out of court. Even worse, going to court is extremely stressful and takes a lot of time - time and energy you might not have if you're, I don't know, training for the Olympics.
Do I know what happened? No. The judgment is sealed. I'm not defending Shaun White. But I'm not going to attack him either. That's the drummer's job, and she took a settlement. I don't have to have an opinion on things I don't know anything about, I don't think it makes me a better person to have such opinions, and (unlike several in this thread) I'm not under the delusion that my opinion matters or anyone cares what it is.
Here's another fact: if you are publicly accused, it won't matter if the charges are true or false, and it won't matter how much you virtue-signaled about #MeToo beforehand.

So because a tiny fraction of resorts are false, we should just assume that all women are lying? Maybe instead of the hand wringing about what happens to the man, we think more about what seven years of abuse did to this woman.
Facts should be allowed to come out for sure, but nobody other than internet lawyers seems to think any of it was made up.

Spatz is right. Complaints and facts are very different things.
I wouldn’t want my son to hang with Shawn, but that was a cool and exciting moment in time.
Michael Jordan slept with strippers on the road. Colby liked to assume a chokehold on girls while he was sleeping with them. But when they had amazing games, the press didn’t lead with, Colby admitted to liking to emulate chocking a girl during sex according to summit county officers. They talked about their athletic feat. Maybe we are a better world when this is the lead. I just found it interesting that it is the lead the morning of his win.

Defensive much? This is definitely victim blaming.
Here is a really well written article on fake accusations and accusers. While everyone seems to know a guy who knows a guy who had his life ruined, the data just doesn’t bear it out. https://qz.com/980766/the-truth-abou...e-accusations/

Me wondering why the drummer put up with it for so long is victim blaming? Haha...whatever. Furthest thing from the truth.
She wasn’t married to him, she wasn’t dating him, she didn’t really seem into the band, doesn’t appear she was making a lot of money.
So color me a victim blamer for wondering why on earth she stay around such a fucking twisted asshole...
Oh, and yeah, I’m fucking defensive when I’m accused of something I’m not.....asshole

There is no judgment. The case is pending. You can be certain that her attorneys invited a settlement negotation before the suit was filed, that a pre-litigation settlement was not reached and that's why she filed suit. That's how it works.
Having been in the biz for 32 years, drafting hundreds of complaints and answering hundreds of others' complaints, I can tell you that it is very rare that a complaint with those kinds of detailed allegations lacks a good faith factual basis. When an attorney signs a complaint, he or she puts her neck on the chopping block. Court rules deem a signature on a complaint as certification that the factual allegations in the complaint are supported by a good faith and reasonable belief in the facts. I won't claim that specious complaints are never filed, but they are very rare because the sanctions for doing so are severe. Very few attorneys would stick their necks out by signing a complaint like that if they did not believe the factual allegations to be true. IME, only 2 out of hundreds of attorneys I know or with whom I have dealt would sign a complaint with such factual details unless they believed all the factual allegations to be true. Those 2 attorneys were disbarred, as they should have been.
The complaint includes factual allegations that can be supported by objective evidence (e.g., dick pic texts) and witnesses. To buy into the theory that she made it all up requires the belief that she somehow fabricated those dick pic texts and paid off witnesses. That's absurd.Last edited by OldSteve; 02-14-2018 at 06:01 PM.
