It's getting hard to find anybody to work on inboards anymore I hear. Although I'm sure the Hinckley crowd has resources.

Little project I am working on for a friend. He is a Yamaha tech and buys a lot of boats off clients. This Pathfinder went 1/4 down for over 24 hours. Guy bought it back from insurance and sold it to my friend. 1 cylinder got wet, so insurance paid for a new powerhead. Needs a re-wire and it is all set. He will probably sell this thing for over $60,000
I am helping make it look like a $60,000+ boat.

What's the perfect length powerboat for Tahoe? I had a 30' wellcraft scarab when I was a kid running to the vineyard from Falmouth/Chatham, but don't know what suits a big choppy alpine lake. That size seems do-it-all, but what you guys think? My pops is asking

Entirely depends how you are going to use it.
    20-26 seems average for most.
    Surfing?
    Overnights?
    How many people average/max?
    Head needed?
    Trailered or moored/slip?
Have a big truck to tow big boat?
Just day tripping and towing 1-2 kids on a floaty? (Playboat)
And biggest one, budget? I have friends with $250k surf boats, I am in less than $15k.

My kids are young, we don't surf, we trailer, 22 ft bowrider with custom awning all the way to the stern, wakeboard tower, CG max of 11, small enough to tow the kids all day, and hang out for the afternoon in a cove and not roast. No head though, would be nice like 1x/year but we do ok.

^ Having owned that's a solid list. What we often did here which may not be applicable to tahoe, if we had a bigger crowd, we would do 2x trips ferrying the crowd to a island/sandbar then play from there. Lakes here have tons of them; though the best would go quick on a summer saturday.

Have him take a look at the new Yamaha jet boats, they're pretty badass. Up to 27', they're definitely not jetskis.

I personally hate the jet boats coming from inboards, but people do love them. For the $$ you can get a fair bit of boat

When I lived on Lake of the Ozarks, that place was heavy chop from all the power boats. Buddy had a 32' Cobalt at the time, that thing rode and took the chop VERY well. Well made boat as well but heavy. Turned me into a fan, if I still was on lake, prob have one right now. But I had a lift, etc... so boat life was simple.

No I bought that Albemarle. Was smart for once and saw the crush on boat sales coming so I jumped before Christmas. Ran into a bump in the road so it's still on the hard but another couple weeks and I should be in action. Can't wait.

30 is probably too much. We're about a year away from getting serious, and there are so many variables. We have to figure out storage, because our driveway is steep. But my Brother in law will be going in on it too, so we'll have somewhere to put it.

I really want one of these

No head I don't think, but a cuddy. 4-5 people max, but often just 1 or 2. No surfing. We have a van/truck to pull something like that.

Lmao. Boats are key around here.

I like the Cobalts, but they do seem a bit heavy. Seems like a very solid choice though.

I priced me a replacement 24' aluminum center console jet boat about 6 months ago. With no electronics, kicker motor, or trolling motor, came in at $130k. Decided to re-vamp mine. New paint, new upholstery, new Garmin 8600 series electronics, rod holders, etc. About $30k in the upgrades.

    And then.......

Cracked a head and dropped a valve in the 5.7 in engine. Have a new bullet on order, hopefully about 6 weeks out. About 550 hp. Will have to change the impeller and add a new wiring harness. Another $30k. Shitballs.
